Worst experience in 10 years of renting! Don't trust the lettings team at Barnard Marcus Surbiton, either Nick or Christina, if they're still there.
Basically the property was great but needed some refurbishment work doing. This was agreed upon by the estate agents AND the landlord before signing the contract (special clauses and email confirmations).
Turned up on move-in day. NOTHING has been done! The property was disgusting and unsafe to stay in. Then we had to fight for a week to get them to honour their word and contract. They ended up offering to void the tenancy agreement. We then said we'd accept this on condition the 1st month's rent AND deposit are refunded in full. (this took another 2-3 weeks to eventually get to us once we escalated the issues to central customer services, Connells Group.)
So we took the financial hit of hiring the van to move in our stuff into an inhabitable property, and moving our stuff out 5 days later, and all this wasted time, to eventually walk away from the whole situation. Genuinely gob-smacked for their lack of standards. We had been consulting with Citizens Advice and a solicitor during the situation.
The above is a very quick run down just because I don't want to waste more time on this, but I have to flag this up on the reviewing websites to at least warn you. I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.

Best agent on the high street!
Just completed on the sale of my flat and the whole transaction was easy and very straight forward considering. Jason Hanley came to value my property and was spot on with the price we market at and the strategy to get it sold! I had initially planned to use the agent I had purchased through but had more trust in Jason and his team to get it done for me. Launch day arrived as the amount of enthusiasm shown from James with all the clients and 3 offers on the Monday morning. Brilliant negotiating and advised correctly as we sold to the perfect buyer! Couldn't fault these guys at all. 3 words to describe them: caring, professional & winners.

Slightly more expensive than the competition but ultimately its about selling your house and getting it done. I feel strongly Barnard Marcus in Surbiton has the network, the people and knowledge to get this done.

To me personally this is tough, because in the end it means you need to do your homework. But when done right it has a massive upside. The upside is an effective sales leader who builds his success on trust and a reliable network of clients. Hence from my perspective I would love to work with Jason again as I would imagine many other clients

They have realistic market values without inflating prices to gain business they can not deliver on.
On the flip side to that I am now selling a lot of my flats and once again they have delivered perfectly. Suggesting different methods of gaining the best price and being open and transparent at all times. I recommend them without hesitation.

Donna Brunton was so lovely and very helpful during our incredibly stressful housebuying experience. She never once put pressure on me, despite us being the ones holding the process up at times. She always chased for info from me in a respectful, cheerful and polite manner and it was a pleasure to work with her and keep her informed. Her lovely personality made it feel like I was sharing the gossip with a friend rather than keeping an estate agent informed of progress. I turned to her for advice and she was always able to draw on her experience to give me an idea of what to do and how to do it. I really really appreciated not being hassled by an estate agent at an already very stressful time. And I trusted what she was telling me at all times. I also felt she was on my side, as well as being fair to our buyer. I was very pleasantly surprised because I'm afraid this is not my experience of estate agents generally.

Due to the time it took to find a property to buy and then the time it took for our purchased property to complete, the process of selling our flat took a very long time.
During this time Dale Woods was the person who oversaw our sale. He was the first agent to sell the flat and as time when on and we needed to keep selling it, members of Dale's team took on the day to day part, however Dale was always on hand to step in where required and for me to call if necessary.
Our process was tricky and in the end we 'sold' the flat 4 times in the time it took to purchase our house. Dale was excellent at ensuring that I was kept up to date on progress and also anything outstanding from other people in the chain. He was extremely accommodating with his time, enabling evening face to face meetings for clarification on what was a very complicated chain. In my eyes Dale went above and beyond what I would have expected from our estate agent - which of course was a huge benefit and comfort to me in what can be a stressful time.
I would highly recommend Dale (specifically) to anyone wishing to sell their property. On top of all the above comments, Dale was always well mannered and cheerful, even when situations would force lesser people to behave otherwise.
