I had the absolute worst real estate experience with Dexters Islington. Do not use this branch. Their communication is horrible, negotiation tactics are opaque/misleading, and they make promises they can’t keep. Louisa took our card for the one week rent deposit to take a flat off the market. But she never ran it despite saying it was a done deal on two separate occasions. In the background she kept showing the flat and then asked us to raise our offer two days after she took our deposit information. It was annoying because she had already broken her word. But we raised the offer well above her new recommendation because we liked the flat. Then she went dark for two days. She would say she would call us in the afternoon and then 24hrs would pass and we had to start tracking her down all over. When she did resurface she told us the flat had been rented. The definition of shady. I hope in the future Louisa and the Dexter Islington team have the courage to have transparent conversations. Otherwise their customer experience will remain substandard.

Do not Trust Dexters Islington Office.
I am shocked at how the Islington office conduct business with potential tenants.
Louisa Carr told us an offer on a property was accepted but then continued to change the offer details over the duration of a week, leaving the listing live online and continuing to do viewings despite us confirming multiple times we were happy to proceed and for the holding deposit to be taken. She knowingly took our bank details and never processed it despite confirming the offer had been accepted via email.
When we realised the listing was still live and our holding deposit hadn't been taken, we flagged this with a Director Adam king. He promised to take our holding deposit that very day, but never did. Louisa then told us a few days later a higher offer had been made and the landlord was going ahead with this.
We stopped our search when we had confirmation the offer was accepted and Dexters wasted a week of our time, lying to us and using us to get a higher offer. It is despicable that they can run a business like this.
If they had just communicated to us that the landlord wanted to keep the property live for a while longer to see if they could get closer to the asking rent, we would have understood. It isn't difficult to be transparent and honest, especially when you know the tenants current contract is up imminently and its really important, they find somewhere soon.
We currently do not have anywhere to live, and our existing contracts have now ended, so their deceit has effectively left us homeless.

Dexters managed our recent sale and purchase in N1. They were excellent, informed and professional. What sets them apart is their enthusiasm and energy. In the current market it took 6 months and numerous viewings to find our buyer. Their commitment to us and selling our property did not falter. Being new to the UK from Canada , I needed to find a place to live as quickly as possible and didn't have much time to ''shop'' around and find the right agency.
When I moved in and eventually settled into my flat a couple of days in, I became very displeased that the agency was not more transparent in the state of the flat (i.e. poor plumbing, an oven that makes an irritating screeching noise every time it's used, and absolutely terrible insulation resulting in many freezing nights during the winter time - despite the tiny heater), oh and also dealing with the landlord who is not at all pleasant. I'm not sure what Dexter's standards are, but for living on Upper Street and paying as much as I did, this was unacceptable to me and I firmly believe the agency should have been more transparent.
I was also displeased with many instances of poor communication amongst the staff. For example, I was contacted by 5+ people (via email AND phone call) asking when my move out date was - surely this should be easy information to get a hold of/update on a central file that the whole team can access or refer to. Finally, the worst experience was when my standing order of rent for each month was misallocated to another flat owned by my landlord. Human error certainly is forgivable however, the agency did not take responsibility for this (as they should have) and a simple apology would have sufficed, but I did not get any acknowledgement.
I voiced these concerns to the staff - Henry and Andrew the manager was aware and despite listening to my feedback, I truly felt like there was no real care or concern about my experience.
Very disappointing.

Almost miraculous. Based on my other experiences, I never could have imagined that finding what I needed could have gone so smoothly. My only point of improvement would be that it would have been nice to have received regular updates about the process, instead of having to constantly ask about the status of the let, or what needed to be done next. However, as September in London is one of the busiest times of year, property-wise, I understand the radio silence. Both Ricky and Henry were incredibly friendly and accommodating - they understood what I wanted and my timeline, and did their utmost to help me and answered all of my many questions. There were no mistakes or loose ends that I'm aware of, and all of the financial details were laid out clearly and there were no surprise fees, which was especially nice as a international postgraduate student, new to the area. I am very grateful and would recommend them to anyone who has done their market research and knows what they want in a property.
