My experience with Dexters has been extremely disappointing. As a tenant, I felt consistently disrespected and disregarded. The agency treats tenants poorly, often picking and choosing which pieces of information they want to share, expecting you to be fully accountable obscure details buried in contracts signed years ago.
Communication is selective and onesided, important updates are often withheld, but you're still held responsible knowing everything. There’s no sense of fairness or consistency in how they operate. It feels like tenants are treated as an afterthought once the paperwork is signed.
I would not recommend Dexters to anyone looking to rent with confidence or peace of mind. Proceed with caution, and keep everything in writing.
I never plan on renting off them again & when I come to buying a house I will never give them a penny

Price was agreed one last day when needed move out they changed contract with price increase and I was with luggage already to move in as agreed so was forced to signed contract with price increase never the less after living in flat almost 6 months received tax letter depts under my name from previous tenants so now on top of everything I need to pay almost 1000£ someone depts and pay taxes alone each month 170 on top, spoken with council was explained that its between you and landlord he done mistake and I need to speak with him, windows broken not fixed I have cancer and can't even move out as contract signed for 16 months, I am trapped now till the pint where can * as I don't have money to get lawyer. DO Not rent with them! THEY ASKING YOU TO SEND EMAIL AND THEY WILL DEAL WITH COMPLAINT AND SITUATION AS PER COMENT BELLOW!!!YOU NOT EVEN ANSWERING SO DO NOT ASK ME TO SENT EMAIL AS md@customerrelationsteam. THIS EMAIL BLOCKED AND BOUNCING , ALSO YOUR COLEGUE ryanmorgan@citydocklands. AND Sarah Tranter sarahtranter@dexters. First of all staff does not seem to talk to each other and there is an extremely high turn over rate, meaning you will most likely have to explain your issue to many different people-and still nothing gets done. It is impossible to get them to fix both basic and serious problems. What has been particularly horrible is that when we wanted to submit a formal complain procedure we were told there was none, even though this is legally required. After challenging them suddenly there was one available. Currently our deposit is being withheld because they want to use an outdate check out report, from 4 years ago. None of the housemates ever signed this report. Basically, unless you have a legal degree or are willing to take on “arguing with Dexters” as your part time job, I would not recommend their service.

I found this company to have the wrost internal communcations I have ever had!
I arranged to view one flat with one agent. Then got spammed by two others about possible other properties that were the same listings.
I then cancelled the viewing with the first agent as I could no longer make it. On the day of viewing I was contacted by a second agent to let me know that a third was running late to the meeting that I had cancelled.
I sent emails with detailed lists of what I was looking for yet continuously got sent emails about flats that in no way fitted my description (I said no ground floor - they sent me ground floor; I said freehold, they sent me leasehold; I said two bedroom, they sent me one bedroom flats with 'cellars').
It seems that unless you email back everyone at the company, messages won't get passed on about anything.
They have thoroughly turned me off them and will not be using them in future.

This was without a doubt the WORST agency I have ever dealt with, and in my time in London, I have dealt with at least 4/5 others. They are horribly and inexcusably impolite, unprofessional, and immoral. They make all kinds of promises to try and get you to rent a property then turn everything around once you've paid the deposit. They lie to your face about the terms of the contract, and consistently tell the landlords and the tenants what they want to hear, only for me to find out the truth about my tenancy (conditions, cost, duration, etc) once the NON-REFUNDABLE deposit (of which they charged me double the amount they said they were going to) had been paid. A member of staff named James C. was especially deceitful and did everything he could to squeeze every last cent out of me and control my entire tenancy (including telling me I had a limit on the number of guests I could have stay at my apartment)! NEVER go near this agents - you will certainly regret it!

I have rented property through Dexters over the last 2 years and have found the servcie to be excellent. Rob at the Clapham offcie is a criedit to the comany and I would reccomend his servcies to anyone looking to let out or rent a property. I happened to be home in the afternoon with some visitors when a viewing agent arrived with some prospective tenants. He informed me that he had already been there that morning with some other tenants.

What agent could do to change your mind?
They should have shown us the property properly, show a genuine interest in us as customers, not asking for credit card details and be far more flexible with the conditions.

I am very thankful to allgents site for finding out beforehand what I could expect from Dexter's.
We were lucky to check the reviews on this site the day before we gave them an offer for a property in south London, so at least we were ready for what was going to come next. The offer was considered literally 'generous', as it was just a few pounds away from the asking price. However things started to go wrong when they explained their requirements, mainly that we should sign a 20 to 24 month contract with a breaking clause, because the landlady wanted "long-term tenants" (who does not??- we also want to be comfy there, but you cannot predict the future). The breaking clause would force us to pay 20% of the remaining rent independently of whether we could find someone else to replace us at the property, or even the amount of time we had been in the property for - i.e if we break the contract on the 7th month, we pay 20% of the remaining 13 months rent even if we or them find someone else to replace us!
I cannot believe that they can even get away with this sort of conditions from a legal point of view, but it seems that estate agents can impose as many abusive clauses as they like. We obviously said that we would not sign anything longer than 12 months and that we were very unhappy about the conditions of the breaking clause.
The icing on the cake came when they asked me -through the phone and before signing anything! -for a credit card number to prove that I was a committed prospect tenant. I objected to this and they clarified that they would not be taking any money nor carrying out any credit checks, but it was just to prove my commitment to the landlady. I explained again that if they were not planning to do anything with those credit card details there was no reason for me to provide them and it would not make any difference. They told me that not giving them would be a deal breaker, so I insisted that I would not give that information no matter what until we could sign something on paper, since I was not even their customer yet. Finally they said they would still present the offer to the landlady. He then didn't get back to me.
We found another flat with more reasonable people.
They did not have a clear idea of what furniture was going to stay in the property and rushed us through the viewing once they saw that we were talking to the current tenants. I would advise anyone to stay away form these very dodgy estate agents.
