The team including Emily, Venora and Alexandra did a great job of initially arranging and conducting numerous viewings and updating us with feedback using their online portal. The team were responsive during the conveyancing as well. We had previously had a negative experience of a different estate agent so it was great to have a professional and proactive team like Chancellors to help sell our property.

We let with Chancellors for 6 years and were initially very happy with their service. Unfortunately, in the last 18 months we began experiencing very significant problems with communication and honesty. We take pride in looking after our tenants - Chancellors began failing to communicate issues they were having with the property; giving us outdated or incorrect information; over-quoting for basic works (£50 to replace a broken toilet holder spring!); and insisting that we raise the tenants' rent even when we were happy without.
They invoiced the tenant for spurious rent arrears without our permission and against our express instruction. They failed to carry out works we had ordered in a timely manner, and tried to charge us for works we had never agreed. They delivered inaccurate and misleading inventory and inspection reports.
Worst of all, we simply could not get a straight answer out of them - any correspondence or phone call was met with "someone will get back to you" and rarely any further action. We spoke to at least 3 different people every time there was an issue - each time having to explain the problem from scratch as they totally failed to communicate amongst themselves.
We were charged exorbitant rates for property maintenance work which Chancellor's never carried out. They clearly had no interest in maintaining our property or looking after our tenants - just in making as much money as possible out of both us and the poor tenants. The entire experience was stressful, demoralising and depressing in the extreme.
After all this was over, we changed estate agents, and I made it clear both by phone and in writing that we had no intention of using Chancellor's any further. Unfortunately this was not respected in the slightest. I received no fewer than 5 emails repeatedly asking us to let with Chancellor's again, in response to my VERY clear decision that the answer was no. It began to border on harassment; I eventually had to formally request that our contact details be removed from their database to stop the constant bombardment of unwelcome begging. It remains to be seen if they will respect the GDPR and remove my data as I've requested!

We had a bad experience with this branch. They were good at showing us properties and getting us signed on, but once we were tenants, things went downhill. There were quite a few things that needed fixing in the property, for any landlord should be a blessing to have a tenant that looks out for their property and points out issues - we spent a lot of time chasing and chasing and in some cases did not get any response at all. In one case i ended up using out of hours Chancellors website chat to book a plumber for a broken tap which I had tried to get a response for with East Oxford branch (which was arranged very promptly this way).
The landlord decided to put our house on the market and the sales team was just as unprofessional as the property management teams. On several occasions we had to ask them to please take their shoes off when viewing the property, and yet we constantly came home to find dirty boot prints all over our light floors. Once they locked us out of our house on one of these occasions, due to a faulty lock we had flagged to Chancellors ages ago (nothing of course was fixed), and they refused to pay the locksmith bill.
And even after we moved out, they still called us to arrange viewings!
A week before we moved out they had arranged for an electricity safety check without letting us know that someone would come to the house and let themselves in with a key. Very unprofessional.
In the end it took 2.5 months for us to get our deposit back with little urgency from Chancellors to get this resolved, but mainly excuses (the check out company changed their system, the landlord is unresponsive, etc).
I would avoid this agent in the future.

I would never deal with Chancellors again on account of their pitiful property management service, in my opinion.
Obviously this is a personal view, based upon my experience and, as I understand this website welcomes such reviews.
I entrusted Chancellors to bring in a good tenant to my property and paid a monthly fee for a professional management service.
In my humble opinion, not only were they irresponsible with their management of my property but the tenant vacated the apartment in August 2019, leaving it in an absolute state of disarray, with the cost of repair in the bathroom and the replacement of carpets and furniture amounting to almost £2000.
In my view Chancellors made little effort to highlight the damage done during routine so called inspection of the property during the tenancy and I've had to go through a lengthy Tenancy Dispute Scheme. Despite providing clear photographic evidence of 'before and after' the tenancy, the TDS awarded a pitiful £300.
Had Chancellors provided the service they boastf, they would have identified the damage during inspection and alerted me I would never have had to experience a frustrating and ultimately pointless dispute.
To describe my experience with Chancellors as unprofessional and utterly discourteous is an understatement. This is only my opinion based upon my personal experience.

My experience with Chancellors has been absolutely terrible. From day one, the agent Mr. Adam McBrien booked the viewing on the house for the wrong time, sent me conflicting information, which resulted in me waiting for 2 hours under the rain. Once in the property, he made me false promises regarding the price of the property, the chance of getting a dryer, and a place to lock our bikes. He encouraged me to make an offer according to his false promises, which came back denied after almost a month! He then acted as if the offer was denied because I asked for unreasonable things, and was very threatening with regards with us losing the chance to ever secure the property. The entire process, with all its back and forth lies, took over 5 months. Adam and Chancellors rarely replied to my emails promptly, or picked up the phone. I was told numerous of times that he wasn't in the office, so had to wait weeks for any information. After signing the contract, we weren't given any information at all for 3 weeks. We called repeatably and were told neither Adam McBrien or Ms. Sophie Taylor were in the office, but promised someone would call that day. No one called for 3 weeks. After all that time, we finally got a call from Sophie apologising, for she had been on holiday. Minimum decency and respect would have required her or Adam to inform us, upon signing of the contract, that we wouldn't hear back for weeks. They were then very fast in demanding payment of the initial monies, even though per the contract this is only demanded three working days before the move in date, so that the money gets to the account on time. Everything was demanded of us, but we were shown no respect, consideration, or good faith. Moreover, we paid almost £4,000 in advance, including a ridiculous amount of £373 in fees for the worst service I ever received. Of these, £53 were hidden fees that Adam McBrien never told us about, and were not mentioned in any of the documents we signed. Still, we were made to pay it. Lastly, in order to be given the keys by the check-in team on move-in day, we were given a business rate number to ring, which also costed us money. We were then told we were given the wrong number, and asked to ring yet another number, from which there was no answer. Chancellors has taken every opportunity to take money from us, while providing a disgraceful service. I feel that Adam McBrien treated us utterly disrespectfully, taking advantage of our status of students (of the University of Oxford). The process and dealing with Mr. McBrien was an awfully stressful experience, and I wouldn't recommend this person or agency to my worst enemy.

My experience in the property was great. But Chancellors were slow to reply to any emails we sent in the build up to renting the property, never able to take calls and generally quick to avoid doing any work.
We asked for specific terms to be added to our contract, which they said was fine and approved. When it came to discussing this with the landlord, they'd had no communication about this and were very surprised. Fortunately the landlords honoured it, but it could have been very difficult for us.
Chancellors also phoned to see if we were interested in viewing the property that we were moving out.
So in short, terrible communication and customer service. But our flat and landlord was lovely.

Chancellors East are the most dishonest, incompetent, morally bankrupt estate agents I ever had the misfortune to meet. They will charge you at every stage of the way. It does not matter if it is their mistakes, or yours, they will find a way to squeeze money out of you. While they are all sweet talk and honey before the contract is signed, they actually do not care about their tenants in the slightest. They only care about money - and tenants trying to make a home in a property managed by Chancellors are made to feel like a nuisance. It is also impossible to get a straight answer out of them - if you have a question or a query - it's alway another department that is in charge, a great way for them to avoid responsibilities at all levels. Although not related to the property we rented with Chancellors, it is worth noting that an agent from another office got in touch with us about our property search (from our details on zoopla). He was pushy on the phone and sent us an email that was hardly polite and even barely literate. I would not have written such an email to a friend, let alone a prospective customer. While this is not related to our experience as tenants with Chancellors, it is representative of the company: obnoxious, rude and incompetent. Avoid at all costs.

Renting from Chancellors East Oxford was one of the worst experiences I've had with a company. Having signed a short let Chancellors gave us a single month's notice after one month's rental, citing the landlord's desire to have us vacate. When we queried this, as it's in contravention of the 2 month period given to Assured Shorthold Tenancies, we were told that our contract was not in this category. Chancellors had just made up a random housing contract that aimed to deprive tenants of the protection offered by UK law, and refused to accept my insistence that this was the case. They refused to protect our deposit, which is also illegal. I had to make a storm on public media and complain to their central office before I got to someone who knew what the law was, and who would behave properly, fulfilling their obligations. They protected our deposit, acknowledged the status of our tenancy and refunded our initial fee.
When we got in touch with the landlord directly they were startled to find that we had been given notice, and contacted Chancellors to insist that we could stay for longer. It seems like Chancellors were just seeking the fees. And it cast suspicion on their behaviour towards the previous tenants, who had also left without wanting to. Had they been sold the same trick?
Late in our tenancy, when the landlord wished to sell the house, they arranged for numerous visits by prospective buyers, surveyors, etc. without informing us. We aimed to facilitate these visits, but on some occasions weren't able to agree to be in for an appointment, and didn't want them to enter without us present. On one occasion, they were on the point of illegally entering the house with their key when my partner got to the door. In other instances they arranged appointments and then harassed us to let them in without having given any notice. When I insisted that this was unfair and illegal, they made it clear that we were an inconvenience to their sale and as renters were considered beneath legal protection, respect or politeness.
Chancellors East Oxford combine ignorance, greed and malevolence in a poisonous combination, and I'm sorry ever to have had the misfortune of encountering them. My partner and I spent countless hours in tears during this period, and several more on the phone to the homelessness charity Shelter, who helped us.
I detest Chancellors East Oxford, and recommend you never venture anywhere near, especially as a rental customer.

Chancellor's handles the difficult position of having both a landlord and a tenant as their client by assuming the tenants are idiots and wrong, and covering for the landlord.
St the start of the lease the slick salesman are all friendly and supportive until you put a signature on a piece of paper; they have made their score and are moving on. They do not answer the phone anymore. We had to wait 5 days for the landlord to sign the contract making all kinds of additional costs for not being able to move at the contract start date.
At the end of the lease we left a perfect apartment, with an inventory that listed 'as per inventory' under every item on every page. Submitted all the required proof of cleaning and jumped through all necessary hoops, and we had to wait for 6 weeks for the deposit. Sorry the landlord has not signed off, was the standard answer.
Moving is stressful, and Chancellor's makes it hell!

We started renting with them in November last year, it is now May and our pre-tenancy work is still outstanding. There was a lot of work that needed to be done on the house, it was in a dangerous condition, yet they don't see exposed wires, rising damp, mould, and pest infestations as priorities.
They are not on your side if you are a tennant, they will do as little as they possibly can to help you during your tennancy, go for someone else - do not fall into the same trap that we did. You will wait weeks/months for work to be done.
It is actually shocking to me that a company as useless as this is in business. It's deplorable how they treat tennants.
