Poor - their fee is not in line with market. It was justified to me on the basis that they offered above average. So far, they have failed to do basic things correctly. Viewings have been arranged without appointments, and can't lift a phone to call back. Would not recommend. The branch service is chaotic, left hand does not know what the right is doing.

Re Swetenhams Chester I can't comment on the lettings team as they seem to have positive reviews but what I can say - if you thinking of selling your house with Swetenhams , please give it some serious consideration . There was one lady called Joanne who was brilliant but unfortunately she left. The experience before Joanne took over my account and after she left was horrendous . Customer service seems to be a complete no go to the sales team. I was not kept informed of anything , they were unhelpful , rarely returned my calls and seemed to do no 'marketing ' of my house what so ever . Their updates on viewing were a complete shambles . I even complained to their head office ( which got me no where other than being allowed to market my property with another agent simultaneously) The 'manager' ( and I use the term loosely ) seems to be constantly in meetings and when you finally get to speak with him , he conveniently was 'away that day ' no matter what you need to ask him. An unpleasant experience from start to finish

This Company manage a rented property next door to our house. The fire alarm has been continually sounding for 6th days. If I owned this property, I wouldn’t be happy to know they are taking a management fee, but fail to take any interest in a house they are responsible for managing and letting. That last statement probably says everything ....in six days they have failed to even show anyone around it!!! I have children as do the neighbour on the other side and this is poor management from the Swetenhams with little care or consideration to neighbours or the owners property!

My partner and I were made unintentional landlords in 2018 due to an international relocation opportunity. We decided to enrol the services of Swetenhams Chester branch to find a tenant and manage our property in Chester for the duration of our expatriation. We would like to share our experiences with this company.
Swetenhams we extremely proactive in launching our property on the letting market. The initial discussion with letting agent Fraser Purell was highly professional and made us feel very comfortable and reassured we were in good hands. Swetenhams found us an excellent tenant within weeks and respected our personal deadline to ensure we were able to keep our mortgage payments covered. In addition, the initial forecasted price per month Swetenhams identified for the property was achieved. This process was managed superbly and there is no doubt that Swetenhams have the competence to market a property with a secure commitment on time and cost.

I have had significant problems with this agency for a long period of time. In the last six months, however, I have noticed a significant change in their approach to their responsibilities as a letting agent. Whether this is due to a change of 'culture' within the organisation or simply the competency of the agent I deal with at the moment (Mark Dann) it is too early to say. Nevertheless, I recommend Mark unreservedly and hope that when he moves onward and upward that the new level of efficiency is maintained. If it is I will not hesitate to give a higher star rating.

I've been renting through Swetenhams in Chester for 5 years now. The property I rent has an excellent landlord who I've struck up a good working relationship with. When I first relocated to Chester, I found the whole process of moving in pretty straight forward and painless. A couple of years back, I had problems with the maintenance and repairs of the property and the property maintenance team at the time weren't helpful, delayed repair works and duplicated emails and phone calls from the same office. Since then things have improved considerably and although I now have little to do with the branch, I have been in contact with the property management/maintenance team again on a regular basis due to similar issues with the flat. Mark Dann, a property coordinator for Swetenhams, has been great to work with in getting property maintenance issues addressed. He's a good communicator, arranges contact with contractors on the same day and follows up the repairs. He's courteous and professional in his approach. Whether this is a organisational change in Swetenham's working methods or I've just hit lucky with someone who clearly takes pride in his work, I don't know but I'm impressed so far!

I have always been responded to via email or call no problem, or updated with any changes via email. Communication personally has been great for me, and everyone i have dealt with has been very polite and plesant.

I am so convinced that they couldn't sell either of the properties in question that I don't think we'll ever find out what their fees are.
A developers point of view here : We initially advertised 2 large executive houses with Swetenhams on an off-plan basis about 18 months ago. They took some initial photographs of the houses when they were shell's and never returned for updated photo's until the first one was finished which is mildly understandable however we weren't impressed with the zero interest they managed to generate so discussed the possibility of joint-agency. At this point Swetenhams played the contract card and said we'd signed up to sole agency (one of our partners hadn't read the finer detail when signing a contract a whole year after they first slapped a photo on Rightmove). After some negotiations with new girl Lauren who apologised for the lack of action blaming her predecessors they agreed to allow us to bring on another Estate Agent. Since then this new Estate Agent has sold the unfinished house and had multiple offers and viewings on the completed one compared to 1 (ONE) from Swetenhams and that was someone who contacted them for a quicker appointment as the more efficient agent wasn't available immediately for a viewing. In fact this individual eventually moved their dealings from Swetenhams as well due to inadequate performance. I emailed Lauren on the 19th June asking for an update - no response. I emailed again on the 19th July, this time receiving an out of office from Nicola, again no response. I rang Swetenhams up yesterday to discover that Lauren left the firm a while back and I needed to speak to Ben who was off sick but was back in today. Ben was due to call me this morning but after calling in again I've discovered that they've had their morning meeting and he's now gone out on appointments. I've dealt with some really poor companies over the years but Swetenhams really are up there with the very worst. I have no personal grievances with this firm and have never met any of their staff myself. ZERO for EFFORT, ZERO for COMMUNICATION, ZERO OVERALL they really are that bad.

They arranged viewings and never told us, they listed our property on the internet without our approval and with incorrect details, they had several different people visiting our house , valuer, sales negotiator, after sales negotiator, someone to take the photos. The other estate agent we went with visited twice and got everything done in those two visits. * They arranged an open house for us and not one person turned up. They told us the already had a list of interested buyers of 13 people, I now think this was just a total lie as this list of 13 buyers never materialised . After a series of mess ups I told them I no longer wanted to continue with them, when they arranged a viewing without telling me about it that was the final straw, that's when the manager told me they would hold me to the contract and told me that I have waived my right to a cooling off period and therefore I would still have to pay them even if I went with another agent! I had no idea I had apparently waivered this right, this is what I mean about their underhand tactics. I was 8 months pregnant at the time and was worried that the stress they were causing me by telling me they were going to hold me to the contract was having on me and the baby. I checked the contract and noticed the bit in the small print that waivered the right to the cooling off period, it had been initialed as she told me, but not by us! They had initialed it on our behalf and the reason I knew this was because they had used the wrong initials! I thought this could be classed as fraud! Eventually after many emails she eventually said that they would cancel the contract which is what happened. The whole experience was horrendous. If I didn't have a newborn to look after I would take this further as their behaviour was disgraceful , unprofessional and quite frankly vile. I would not want anyone else to go through what we did with Swettenhams Chester.

To lie about an error they made and to try to put accointability onto innocent customer after making the largest purchase of their life is extremwly low. Am lost for words. Will never deal with them again.

Agents fees were reduced as we'd previously tried to sell and service was bad. Was told staff had changed.

Terrible service from day one, lies about the package and support they offer, no proactive marketing of the property. 3 viewings were messed up in the space of a couple of weeks. Poor communication and constant lies. I would avoid Swetenhams Chester at all costs as they are unbelievably unprofessional and untrustworthy. Every single member of staff we dealt with were unprofessional and at times plain rude. From start to finish to experience was an absolute joke.
We ended up having to exchange and agree to completing with no notice at a time which was totally usury able for us despite numerous conversations and emails advising of our requirements. Christmas 2015 ruined as a result of the incompetence of Swetenhams !

What agent could do to change your mind?
They could tell the truth about the service they offer (or don't offer to be exact). They could perhaps make some attempt to keep in touch with their clients. How they can afford to pay their staff I don't know 'cause they know absolutely nothing about selling houses!

I had to pay £150.00 for photographs before my house could be marketed. I paid the money, the photographer took the photos but my house has not been marketed by Swetenhams. Can I get my money back??

I'm going along with everything that anyone else has said about Swetenhams Chester. To say they are diabolically awful is quite an understatement. They claim to be Chester's Premiere Estate Agents – Lord help the rest!! On 27th March 2015 I instructed Adam Palmer of Swetenhams Chester to offer my house for sale. On 14th April they sent me what they called sales details for my approval – the introduction was just one sentence and even that was incorrect. I made my amendments and sent the thing back the following day. By 27th April 2015 – 4 weeks after instructing them - when I had heard absolutely nothing more from them I rang to find out what was happening but Adam was on annual leave. Clearly none of the other members (at least 6 others that I know of) of staff were capable of dealing with this. I was promised a call back on the Monday when Adams was due back from his leave. Needless to say this did not happen and I rang to check the score. Adam was now due back on Wednesday. Couldn't they have rung to let me know this? On Wednesday I was promised a call back on Friday (today) well time is rapidly running out today and it's Bank Holiday weekend. Also this has cost me £150.00 that I had to pay for the photographer – will I get that back when I sack them?
