What agent could do to change your mind?
Better Customer facing staff
Better management to control staff incompetence and arrogance
Better facilities management to control outlandish repair costs from \"their in house\" tradesmen

I used this company - as a landlord I was constantly having to call them to chase every issue. For one problem I called 6 times over a 2 week period before it was resolved. They are charlatans of the highest order - I had to instruct them NEVER to send a plumber/electrician etc to the flat for repairs or inspection because the prices they billed for even a simple 5 minute job were extortionate. Luckily I have friends in the building trade and used them, when I explained the amounts I had been charged for the work done my friends (subject matter experts) laughed, shook their heads and said I had been ROYALY RIPPED OFF!
At every stage the office staff seemed disinterested, there is NO office continuity, you speak to one person, think an issue is resolved then next week another calls you up about the same thing - they don't communicate about work at all - far too busy drinking tea and fluttering eyelids from what I saw.
Countrywide have now bought them out - poison chalice methinks LANDLORDS AVOID!!!!!

Absolutely shocking level of service. They were rude and patronising and constantly shifting the blame to the tenants. The staff are disorganised and uninterested (the office assistant more interested in doing her nails and chatting to her co-workers than us) The move in date was pushed back three times to over a month after the initial date agreed. They grudged handing us our letting documents and eventually coughed them all up in one big heap -many of which stated were to be read and signed a least 48 hours before the tenancy agreement was signed which was handed to us at the same time.
It took them three months to fix a leaking kitchen tap and another three months to fix a broken washing machine which flooded a cupboard and left considerable damp. Only with the threat of withholding rent did we get any sort of response other than their automated emails and phone recordings.
As a whole the experience was abysmal and the customer service was so terrible it is actually impressive. NEVER again will we be dealing with Merchant Lettings. Now just to wait and see if they withhold our deposit...

Merchant Lettings is, without a doubt, the most dishonest and blatantly money-grubbing business I have ever had the misfortune of getting involved with. The staff were downright rude the few times I called with a repair request, and treated me like it was beneath their dignity to even speak to me. Upon moving out, they informed me that they would be keeping my entire deposit, because I'd 'ruined' furniture, and I'd left the place filthy and crawling with bugs. I kept that flat spotless, and when I moved out, I took a day off work to clean it. The item of furniture had been broken a long time, and I had called repeatedly to have it replaced. I sent a letter to the MD. No response. I finally had my lawyer send them a letter, to which the MD grudgingly replied. I ended up only getting some of my deposit back. The entire experience was horrendous. Do not touch them with a barge pole.

This letting agent was horrendous. The flat was filthy when entering and the said they had charged previous tenants £180 to clean as they had left it dirty. There was also small insects in kitchen and a cupboard full of dirty duvets and crutches ets. Despite calling on a regular basis I was told to purchase a tin of insect repellant for bugs. They were not in the least interested. The property manager was really rude on the telephone. On departure they retained some of my deposit for cleaning the flat........ I left it spotless. Not happy at all.
