Comments (0)Renter here: A&H made the process of finalising our lease incredibly difficult- multiple delayed responses to emails, being passed around about 4 different people in the office, little to no knowledge of the flat itself when showing us around (e.g. what council tax band it was in), and there was a frustratingly long chain of emails each requesting a new bit of information or proof of ID, rather than one email at the start with a list of what was needed. Only responded when prompted by email or rung up multiple times.

Renters have basically no power here, so to any landlords reading: PLEASE consider going with a different estate agent to rent out your place.

I have found Eve most helpful and efficient in maintaining my property , keeping me in touch with Tenant Requests and generally managing lets.
She also is most helpful with finding new tenants, and arranging for various reviews required by law etc Burglar Alarm, Heat Efficiency.
She keeps me well informed of the state of the property and when repairs and replacements are required.
So all in all I have nothing but praise for Eve and am grateful to her for all her good work. Joe Morgan

Do not use this estate agents! If I could give the company a zero star, I would. I'm not one to right reviews, but my whole experience with this agency has been nothing but horrific. Such as having to wait 3 months for my blind to be fixed during the tenancy, to them loosing my keys when I handed them back in after the tenancy. The entire experience has been appalling. My most recent frustration, where if I don't laugh, I'll cry, is that it has taken them 2 months (and counting) to receive my deposit back. They have lost my details and card number (have they heard of GDPR?), I have been told there is a 'back log' with giving out the deposits, alongside every other excuse under the sun. This is ILLEGAL to hold money over the 10 working days that you state on your contracts. All of the tenants in the house chase the agency every single day for a response, one day we receive an excuse, other days radio silence. I feel like we've had to go to this extreme to get their attention now. Please give us our deposits back so I don't have to ever deal with this agency again!

Unfortunately this is the worst agency I've ever worked with, not only do they not give you a proper induction when you first move in (we had to ask a neighbour about bins etc) but their professionalism is sincerely adequate at best. They're so many better agencies to use, I would recommend staying far away from them and going for a different one. The agency takes 3 weeks to respond to any issues and usually you have to sort it yourself (my flat mate and I had to spend our own money to sort things out as the person 'responsible' for your aftercare was incredibly incompetent. Granted the properties they have are upmarket but unfortunately the service you receive is not parallel to the property given. Allen & Harris have been let down by the staff they employ and judging on the other reviews we have all had similar experiences. Stay clear, as they will not assist you and will take 3+ weeks to respond to any queries - incredibly unprofessional!

Our only difficulty is with the billing/payment system. If is unclear, difficult to understand and they don't seem to be able to consolidate payments, (unlike other agents we use), which makes a lot of work for us and our accountant.

To add insult to injury, they then dipped into the tenants deposit in order to help themsleves to disputed fees. Overall I experienced from them a lack of integrity and transparency.

Rented for 9 months and all was fine (if you take no contact at all as fine), but no guidance given about the world of renting, and this was our first rental. I am writing this review as a tenant. Allen and Harris are not the worst I have experienced but they are also far from the best. Whilst repair works were completed when requested, they were never to a good standard. One work in particular had to be re-done 3 times because it was not done correctly, and another resulted in extra damage being done, not very impressed. The agency also lost their set of keys to my property, lied about it to my landlord and then expected me to have another set cut at my own expense. It also took over 2 weeks of chasing by me and my landlord to have my deposit returned to me. As soon as I moved out, my landlord instructed a new agent.

I used this company when moving to Bristol a I quickly needed a property in central Bristol.
It cost an absolute fortune, staff were uninterested as soon as we took the property. I've had to ring several times for various reasons and get passed around and left on hold, then I'm told somebody will call me back and they never do.
The property did not have all the functions they told me it did. Not even a tv connection in the living room, which a woman pointed out to me as being there when we first visited.
I spoke to a member of staff who told me extending our tenancy would be possible, I then paid for line connections and alike for the flat. After spending further money on this I then got a voicemail asking if it's ok for a potential buyer to see the property, at which point nobody had told me the property was being sold. So having spent time, effort and a lot of money with this company I'm only in the property for another 2 months. All they have to say to me now is that they will look into it, not much comfort to me.
I would never use this company again and advise other people to try renting from private landlords or more professional agencies.

After renting from Allen & Harris once, will never do so again! Consistently incompetent, utterly indifferent to the interests of the tenant, and loads of enormous made-up fees to boot. Awful - messed us around and lied to us even though we were prompt with payment and had excellent references which cleared in a day. I chose Allen and Harris in Clifton village (Bristol) to sell my flat primarily due to their location (at the end of my street). Overall I have been very impressed with their service. The particluars they produced were excellent - I almost didn't recognise the flat the photos looked so good. They were very quick off the mark at getting people into view - within 24 hrs of instructing A&H they had 6 people lined up. This level of interest was maintained at approximately 8 viewings a week until a buyer was found approximately 4 weeks later. I found their staff professional, courteous and enthusiastic. They kept me informed of progress at all times. Furthermore they always showed clients the property themselves rather than expercting me to do it. I would the one downside was that they encouraged me to accept an early offer somewhat lower than the asking price howeverI held out and did eventually get an offer above the asking price.
