This same thing happened to us - however our offer was accepted and we paid the fee to ensure it was ours (£524) for them to only ring back on the Monday to say the landlord had gone with another...

Everything about this agency is a shambles. When any work has needed to be done to the property it has required constant calls to them before it started and on several occasions it has been left half done requiring even more calls before work was completed.
