Dave was an absolute life saver throughout our process of selling and buying a house in Swindon. We were a bit unlucky with our purchase, as there were quite a few logistical issues and solicitors were not really keeping us in the loop. But at each stage, Dave from Allen and Harris was fighting our corner and pestering people to keep the ball rolling. Thank you! I would recommend Allen & Harris, and Dave more specifically, to anyone thinking of buying a house.

Very poor customer service. This has been the worst and most stressful moving experience I have ever had - and I have moved internationally multiple times. The only positive was the service received from Tyler Corr during the initial letting process (viewings/ documentation) who was very efficient and professional.
I was due to collect my keys on a Friday after having organised all the necessary documents, references etc weeks in advance. I was contacted by Bethany Casey incredibly last-minute at around 4pm the day before my move-in date to be informed that this would not be possible as the previous tenants had delayed their move-out and subsequently left the apartment untidy. I was told it might be possible on the Monday after but given no confirmation of this and was told she would get back to me to confirm. I had no information by the Saturday when I rang and was told Bethany was not in but had been trying to organise some out-of-hours cleaning service and someone would update me on the status of the flat. I received no update ( bear in mind I had to vacate my at the time property by the Monday at the latest, so was incredibly stressed at this point.)
On the Monday, I called first thing, and was told the inventory needed to be done prior to the move-in time but had informed them that I had a moving van pre-booked and could not alter this without forfeiting the full amount paid for the moving services. I was later informed by the inventory taker that this had not been highlighted to him as an urgent job by the letting agent despite it being a move-in rather than a move-out job and as such he had left this job till later in the day. On multiple occasions on the Monday in between moving I had to go into the letting office to ask for an update even though I'd been told she would get right back to me, only to see the letting agent attending to non-urgent tasks like walk-ins despite explaining the urgency of my situation. The moving van had already arrived at my previous property and I still did not have the keys to the new property. This meant the moving van had to offload all of my items onto the street whilst waiting for Bethany to discuss with the landlord alternative arrangements for my moving in - an option which should have been done and considered long before. There was no sense of urgency on her part whatsoever.
I eventually was given the keys, but when I got into the flat, the flat was still very unclean with many faults that had not been addressed or highlighted including mould and damp, faulty equipment, stains on all carpets, insects etc. I raised these issues, and 2 months in to the tenancy the vast majority of these have not been addressed. My emails were not replied to for weeks as I was later informed she was on bereavement leave but had not communicated this in any way and with no-one else replying to me to attempt to resolve my issues. My request to put in formal complaints have been repeatedly ignored hence my resorting to this online review. The service has been appalling with little to no remorse shown or compensation for the shortcomings. I do not recommend this service at all.

When I first approached Allen & Harris 2 years ago to arrange a viewing, I cannot fault anything. Professional and good communication and eventually landed a house through them. After that, things went downhill. Day after paying a large amount of money for deposit and month in advance and costs, was called the next day as they wanted another £100+ for an Inventory. What a joke... there was no Inventory done so how they had the cheek I don't know. Also 2 weeks after moving in and me switching Utility Suppliers before I moved in, I get a bill from Spark Energy. Yes Spark who are no more now. Apparently I had signed my Rental Contract as you do and on page 101 (ok I exaggerate that bit) you agree to allow Allen and Harris to arrange your Energy. Nice back hander for them eh? Spark didn't have my name but no GDPR rules followed at all. What a scam so Tenants beware of this! Anyway 2 years later, I have moved out. Lovely landlord advised them to release my deposit (belatedly but on 8 May). Even today by 4pm still not received it so called after last week's email was ignored. Finally got it in my Bank at 5.30pm. Beware of these people - they stitch you up and you are treated with contempt. When you send emails and the person is out of the business, there is no Out of Office reply so you get more and more angry and frustrated. Kudos to Matt who sorted it today but avoid this Agency. I have lost 2 rentals because they don't give a damn about ex Tenants and someone somewhere just earns Interest on your deposit when they choose to act as slowly as they can. Allen and Harris have no consideration for the impact of their behaviour and the consequences they have on people's lives. They just make money any which way they can. BTW potential Landlords.... when I gave Notice, Allen and Harris managed to find one Tenant in 2 weeks who were unsuitable. Primary Lettings found bucket loads and the lovely house had New Tenants within days. Shame on you Allen and Harris..... don't forget Tenants can become Landlords or Home Buyers and we have a choice when it comes to Agents....... PS 1st time I have reviewed a business so that's how mad I am!

I sold my house with Allen and Harris. My initial experience was good, they seemed to know the market and be very confident in selling it. The process of getting the property listed and selling it went well but I found with everyone I dealt with at Allen and Harris, they were very helpful....until you have paid your money! I had a promotion to get some money back (several hundred pounds) because I had previously tried using an online agent. The months of hassle and chasing I had to undergo was almost not worth the money. At the point of writing this review, I have finally received my rebate. I moved 4 months ago! I have phoned so many times I have lost count chasing this, the staff have absolutely no interest once you have paid your money. They will happily tell you what you want to hear, that they are sorry and will personally chase it up and let you know. They never bother calling back. I have been lied to several times with them trying to cover admin errors they have made. The after sales experience has been so bad that I will never use Allen and Harris again.
I would suggest that people are careful using this estate agent. Get everything written down and always follow up, don't expect them to live up to their word. People like Brendan will happily tell you they will make sure the sun doesn't set tonight.

Terrible!! As a landlord I relied upon Allen and Harris to manage the property appropriately. The property (second floor flat) was refurbished before letting and the first tenants appeared fine. However I received regular reports that the property was 'OK' and there were no major problems. I was friendly with the neighbours and they informed me that water was leaking through their ceiling and they could smell damp. After being reassured that the property was fine I went to have a look for myself. The property was utterly shambolic, water had leaked under the floors, the place was filthy and the damp had soaked into the electrics. I could not believe that the property inspections had been done, either that or the letting agents must have a different view of 'OK'. I subsequently asked the current tenants to leave and had to spend a considerable amount of money refurbishing the flat (18months after the initial let). The agents take the money and do not discharge their duties as advertised and not to the standards you would expect.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid Since collecting my keys to a rented house I have been left so disappointed and really hacked off. The day after I picked up the keys (nearly 3 weeks ago) I reported a problem with the washing machine, I have been through - we'll get someone out to look, you may need a new machine, we can't do anything until the landlord agrees back through to we will get a contractor out today after I had spoken to a solicitor, 3 days later still no contractor. I never get a call back and can see that the contempt still goes on, should have know better when I got the keys I was referred to as 'she' multiple times just because they had put the wrong date in the contract apparently this was my fault. Also property was absolutely filthy, which I obviously had to deal with before moving in. It's about time the industry is regulated properly and customers treated with a decent level of service.

The customer service is appalling. They also told me that the tenant telephoned them to cancel it, yet I am the owner selling the house and I had arranged the survey with them. Plus, there were two properties and I do not know why they cancelled the meeting on both on the saying of one of the tenants.
Alan could not take any form of criticism and was taking my complaint as a personal insult - may be he thinks he is the Alan in the Allen & Harris. I had to ask him whether he was the Mr Allen Harris. He should be able to take constructive criticism and be professional.

Shockingly poor levels of communication and service. Having been charged £180 by A&H for "marketing" they appear to be unable to get even the basics right when advertising the property, being sold for example whether the property is detached or semi....and what the correct price is! Agents carrying out viewings are ill prepared sometimes late, and sometimes don't turn up at all ("oh ...did we forget to tell you that the viewing had been cancelled"?) In house communication between team members appears to be non existent, calls/emails are not returned, feedback is patchy at best (and non existent at worst) After a week of calls and emails it took a request for a copy of the formal complaints procedure to get the manager to the phone.I would strongly advise any potential vendors or buyers to go somewhere......in fact anywhere else

Allen & Harris were made aware of this and the fact that I had booked my viewings in sequence so that I could get to see them all. Firstly, the agent turned up fifteen minutes late which disrupted my tight schedule. Secondly I was greeted by the agent with the words "we do not have the keys for this property, but the current tenants are aware of our appointment and will let us in". After knocking the front door several times and walking around to the rear of the property it was obvious that the tenants were not in the property, so I left without viewing. I was told that the landlord was bringing in to their office a set of keys on the following Monday and to call their office to arrange another viewing. After calling the office several times the following week and being fobbed off with excuse after excuse and still no revisit date, I used another letting agent (Richard James) and the service I received was excellent, so much so that I took the first house that I viewed through them. I have been in my new property for 1 month and received a call from Allen & Harris last week asking if I would like to view the original property now....... Sorry Allen & Harris, but I went with an efficient agent in the end who was organised and very friendly........

What agent could do to change your mind?
The agent could have explained the opening hours of their accounts department and told me to have either made a bank transfer earlier on in the week so that they could have checked it was in their account or they could have told me to make a debit card payment - its frustrating because the money was already and I chose that method because I thought it would be easier and they were fully aware that I needed the keys today and that I was travelling 3 hours with a car full of stuff!!!

I have had the worst experience unfortunately with Allen & Harris, they were very efficient on the day that I needed to view the flat, however, after that day I was on an extremely tight deadline with a new job starting and Christmas and New Year getting in the way - I had a week from taking the property to when I needed to move in which Allen and Harris were completely aware of. I had to keep phoning them to chase up my references and they never return your call, they also lied and said they had contacted one of my references on the Tuesday and they were waiting for them to get back to them, when the truth was they phoned my reference once at 10 am the Friday! I was travelling 3 hours to move in with a car full of stuff and phoned them twice to check that everything was okay for me to collect the keys and for them to let me know what I needed to do and what I needed to bring with me. To make sure everything moved smoothly I read all of their paperwork to make sure I had the correct documents - their document says for large sums please use bank transfer as your bank may not allow large sums to be taken from your bank account - to avoid this embarrassment I made sure the transfer was made before I set off and also had a print out of this transaction. When we were arrived we were told we were unable to have the keys as their accounts department wasn't open to check if the money was there. The agent was not very helpful and even more annoying the only reason why I chose that method is because their paperwork told me to - I phoned twice and not one of the agents told me not to use this method because their accounts department wouldn't be open - their reply was oh I didn't think you would be doing a bank transfer!!! I have not had a 6 hour round trip and no flat to move into as I have to wait for their accounts department to open - It is an absolute joke considering they were fully aware of my time restraints and they were fully aware of my intentions to move in that day as well as the distance I was travelling! Not happy to say the least - If I didn't start a new job next week I wouldn't be using them!
