Allen and Harris Pontcanna (parent company Sequence) have been the worst lettings agent I have ever had to deal with.
Firstly, we signed up for 12 months and at the end of the 12 months we decided to stay on for a little bit while we looked to buy a house. We were offered two very limiting options: either commit to another 12 months or commit to 6 months followed by a rolling two-month contract. Either option carried a 140 renewal fee! Please be aware that this fee applies at every contract renewal so we have now handed in notice before the end of the current period. We would rather move than pay this extortionate 140 contract renewal fee.
Secondly, a fence panel blew down in November. We contacted them and they said they will contact the landlord. No fence repairs. In February (three months later), another fence panel came down. Again, we called to sort this. Nothing. Absolutely nothing was done. In June (seven months later!) the neighbour moved out and their landlord came round to sort the place and replaced the fence panels himself. Allen and Harris / Sequence did nothing in seven months, even after repeated requests.
All of this on top of the patronising six-monthly 'inspections'. In summary, avoid Allen and Harris Pontcanna. They overcharge for their fees and you get nothing back in return. I do not expect my full deposit back even though the property is clean and like it was when we started renting.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Expensive fees. And a really expensive contract renewal fee of £140!

Allen & Harris Pontcanna branch, Cardiff - used as a managing agent for owners overseas. Do not use this company if you want to ensure a hassle free service. They did not always advertise the property promptly in between rentals (they had to be reminded to do this several times). They had to be chased by phone to ensure any maintenance was done (which wasn’t subsequently checked) They booked in the same maintenance jobs which had previously been done. The inventory system is not reliable, with lots of things missing. The staff turnover is so high, you don’t speak to the same person twice! Not recommended at all, very disappointing service and no apologies or compensation after complaints.

Allen and Harris are the worst Estate Agents I've encountered in over 40 years ! We wish to rent a flat or small house in Cardiff and contacted Allen and Harris. We booked a viewing of a suitable flat on the morning of Saturday, 29th June, 2019. We impressed upon them that we were travelling THREE HUNDRED MILES to view this flat and that, if anything went wrong, we needed to know the day before, when we were setting off, so that we could cancel our trip. First, they insisted on moving the time of the appointment. Then we had to ring up THREE times to ask the address of the property. And then, when we arrived at the property at 1.30pm on Saturday, 29th June, no-one from the Agency turned up !! We had a totally wasted trip to this property !! When we arrived home 2 days later, there was a phone message on our landline from Allen and Harris - it was left 2 hours before our appointment time, and they were ringing to CANCEL our appointment due to an "access problem". Had they lost the keys?? Whatever the explanation, this is an absolutely APPALLING EXAMPLE of a useless, uncaring Estate Agent who simply don't care about their clients OR their landlords. Don't go near them !!

I recently moved to Cardiff and as such wanted to rent before I chose a place to buy in. I went to Allen and Harris and this was probably the worst mistake I have made. Issues include them lying about the garage being empty, when I moved in the inventory was all wrong, saying dishwasher was working. It was not, showers in perfect condition, they were not etc. now after months of arguing they send someone round to fix the showers and he messes the job up and floods the house. As they are my only point of contact they say it is not their fault and I would have to have the contractor directly, which is time consuming and he says he is not willing to pay for all the damage to my clothes furniture etc. Does anyone know of a way to get fees back for miss representing the property whilst viewing?
