Ryden are an absolutely unscrupulous letting agent. Everything goes well until you encounter a problem with the property and have to wait an age for a repair. In my case the boiler failed over the Christmas period and was not fixed until mind January.
On moving out they tried to squeeze as much money from the deposit as possible. Claiming that a professional cleaning was required. I cannot see how this can possibly be true as the house was immaculate (much cleaner than when we moved in!) Every tiny detail on the officious letter they sent us was completed. Needless to say they could not tell us how much this would cost and we had to wait 5 weeks for the deposit to be refunded. All in all a terrible experience with a company that clearly has no business being a letting agent.

What agent could do to change your mind?
This agent needs to act in an honest manner and not treat people as if they are numbers in a money game, disgraceful service

I have recently had to deal with Ryden lettings agent and I have to say I have been left severely disappointed with the service I received and would advise anyone to beware when using them. I called up to say I wanted to immediatly secure a property for rent which had come on the market an hour before. I had viewed it previously as it was on the market to buy. I was advised that I could not confirm rent until I had seen the property again but that it was a formality and I would be able to hold the property for two weeks if I wanted it, I needed to tie up some lose ends so required the two weeks to do this. I viewed the property late that very day and called first thing the next day to secure and pay a deposit. I was informed by Deirdre that I would have to pay half the deposit to secure then and there, I asked a couple of questions about the place and was told that she would phone back and I could pay the deposit then. Upon the call back I was told that the flat was being viewed by another two people that day and that I would not secure the property until all had seen it. Surely first come first serve should be a policy, especially when I was told it could be held for me. I am a professional with an excellent credit record and was flexible on rental term so no issues there. Anyway the day came to a close and I was told I had lost the flat of to another person. I really do think this is appalling service, Ryden shouldn't be promising people two weeks hold if they have no intention of allowing it and also to ask me to pay a deposit one minute and the next telling me that I would have to wait for further viewings to happen is shocking. I have been left bitterly disappointed and quite frankly Deirdre needs to learn to manage her work and process better as it is not in line with what her colleague had said the previous day. Just proves Ryden are in it for the money and not good honest customer service, terrible.

I rented a property with Ryden from October 2010 - March 2011 and will never be making that mistake again. When the flat was first advertised we were told it came with a TV, DVD player and working fire however upon moving in we were then told none of these things worked. Around November our boiler broke down and through several calls to Ryden and several more house visits it was finally fixed in January. When we told them this was unacceptable all we got told was that we had electric heaters so it shouldn't be a problem. It was ridiculous as the flat was freezing!!!
When we moved out last month we were told we could not get our full deposit back as although we had left it in a perfect condition the windows were not clean and the sofa had a dent in it - this dent that was there when we moved but they had failed to include that in their inventory and we stupidly failed to include it. So now we have to wait on our deposit until people from DFS see if they can put extra lining in the sofa!!!! Also she asked us if we used the TV and fire, eh no because they were not working and we were told this after moving in. It seems they want to keep a large part of our deposit for re decorating purposes.

They are very helpful when moving in and everything seems so smooth and easy. When leaving however, the service is not good. Our apartment where we had been for 2 years (without anything serious going wrong) was deemed to need a professional clean after leaving. Without any choice I am still waiting after 1 month to find out the cost that will be deducted from the Deposit, which obviously I have not received yet. Also, our mistake but they simply give your an inventory in the office and tell you to check it. I did not mention to them that some things were missing but on leaving, they will bill you for everything from one fork to a light bulb not working. So my advice, check the inventory, send it back to them noting everything. If you think the apartment needs a clean let them know straight away.
Perhaps this is the same everywhere, but great when you move in, but terrible when you leave.
