When I approached Olivers, I had had my property with a rival estate agent for over two months without an offer. Although I then reduced the price before putting it on sale with Olivers, I consider it was the wider exposure it got with Olivers that eventually found a buyer who eventually bought the property. I always found the staff I dealt with professional, thorough and helpful.

The last year renting from Oliver's Town has been by far the worst experience I have had from estate agents. After paying extortionate agency fees, we have been repeatedly disappointed with rude staff, ignoring of our emails, ignoring of our problems with the property, arrogance and dishonesty. We have had to file complaints for inappropriate entry to our property, and have been left to deal with significant issues with the property such as mould, broken shower, broken fridge, flooding, and other poor maintenance issues. At the end of our tenancy, an extortionate amount was taken off our deposit for these maintenance issues, despite our requests for action to be taken being ignored for the last 12 months. This has now gone via TDS dispute scheme, and even throughout this process, Oliver's Town have failed to provide basic correct information about our property (such as tenancy start date, names of the tenants etc.) Would not recommend this agent to anyone.

Stephen came to view with Oliver McHugh - who sold the property to us 29 years ago! They advised a higher asking price than another well known agency, at a half a per cent less commission. We had 2 acceptable offers before the ink was dry on the Particulars. No fault of theirs it took a long time to exchange - but very pleased with the result (and without a For Sale sign).

How on earth is this estate agent still in business?? Their marketing is awful, the emails they send to those unfortunate enough to sign up with them are from the 1980's. None of the links work, the descriptions are written by a 3 year old and they pay no attention whatsoever as to one's requirements. l have been renting my properties through Oliver's for a number of years, l like the fact that they are a small locally owned business, and get to know their clients. Oliver's have always achieved great rents for me, and found excellent tenants, which gives me peace of mind as l live abroad.
As l now live overseas, Oliver's management department looks after my properties, which usually went well, but since Jane Havell joined the team, l have been really impressed with her knowledge and understanding of property management. l really feel that Jane goes the extra mile to keep both landlord and tenant informed of what is going on, she is honest, and always finds solutions to the most annoying situations, keeps you informed, and responds without fail, well done Jane. Oliver, please keep Jane in the team!.

What agent could do to change your mind?
They should have sent qualified workmen to assess the problem straight away, and to fix the heating promptly. They should have paid for us to stay in a hotel while the work was carried out, and they should compensate us for the costs we incurred. They should have apologised instead of resorting to being rude. They still should changes the locks, as a security measure, and make sure they do not loose the keys- and if they do, then they should change the locks again. They be respectful to their tenants as human beings with rights, who are paying for a service.

I dealt with a number of staff whilst a tenant with Oliverstown. On a couple of occasions I spoke with Oliver McHugh, he was rude, arrogant, and completely unconcerned. Daniel Thomas was property manager when I first moved in and our heating broke. He was unreliable, untrustworthy and also unconcerned. After he left Pritesh took over, he was also rude, sarcastic and unhelpful.
Our heating broke last November, and it took over 2 months of endless visits by unqualified workmen, before they agreed that the ancient boiler needed replacing. On one occasion a workman let himself in without prior warning, just as I was getting out of the bath- I was upset about this, but Daniel inferred I was making a 'fuss'. When they finally replaced the heating- after I had threatened to go to the council- They lied about the extent of the works, and we had to live in a dusty building site, with no heating, or hot water for 10 days. We contracted seriously bad flu, and lost several days work and school. We had to eat out when the workmen were there, which was expensive. We asked for compensation, but weren't given any. They left the flat with pipes everywhere, it looked like a squat basically. At the end of our tenure they made a big fuss about photographing every surface for scratches etc- which was a joke considering the state of the place, and they had nothing to compare it to, as they had not documented the flat when we moved in. They did pay back our deposit after dragging it out for several weeks. The current property manager, Jane, seems a lot better, though I doubt she'll stay if she has any sense. The whole office has a culture of bullying, and complete chaos- for example they lost two sets of keys, and couldn't keep track of appointments. They showed no concern that somewhere there were sets of keys to our home- despite their high staff turnover. In short the only thing that bothers them is money. I don't think they take on board that the tenants are paying for a service, and have rights.

Oliver's asked me to move quickly on a rental flat as there was another viewing. They recommended what my offer should be then they said the landlord won't accept the offer so I upped the offer which was accepted. I paid a deposit to complete the contract. After I had organised the move Oliver's then called and said someone else had made a better offer via another agent (allegedly) and they refunded my deposit and left me out of pocket for all the other expenses of moving. Surely the money means its a contract? Very unprofessional.
