We have just let our property through Harris - Shields and found the process to be very organised and thorough with clear feedback at regular intervals. Having spent several weeks in Scarborough and Bridlington searching for a property to buy ( I am relocating from Cheshire) I have come to realise that Harris Shields in Scarborough are the best agents there - after the FANTASTIC service I have received from all their staff, most especially Ralph . They have been consistently professional, helpful, empathised completely with my situation , and been incredibly supportive and understanding, never pushy or remotely arrogant or salesman like - with a fantastic knowledge of the local area and willing to bend over backwards to help me find the right place . I have been treated with the utmost courtesy from beginning to end, felt valued and able to place my trust in them . I can also say that the same is true in their Bridlington branch - where Mr. John Harris showed me round a property and was absolutely outstanding , pointing out the building's bad and good points , clearly a highly trained, dedicated and most intelligent , true gentleman who could see everything from my point of view , but whose invaluable input helped me make incredibly important decisions . His honesty and integrity shone through , and I felt in very safe hands . What a stunning gentleman - and I can honestly say the same of all his other staff . I have been kept updated daily of all new properties coming on the market with them too . Their communication has been exemplary . As and when I come to sell , I shall have no hesitation whatsoever in choosing Harris Shields to sell my home . Probably the best agents I have ever come across - THANK YOU ALL so much :)) xx

Fees are excessive, deposits are too large, and a guarantor is often required despite excellent references and no history of defaulting on rent. I shouldn’t have to pay an extra £200 for a cat. I find this discriminatory. Most pet owners are clean and responsible, but typically tenants pay the price for the one or two bad ones. This was particularly galling considering the house was in a pretty poor state of decoration when I moved in, and yet streaky walls and ancient gloss were deemed good enough by the agent - but the slim chance of my cat causing damage to the house warranted a separate agreement document all of its own.

But the worst thing happened when my landlords put my house on the market only three months after I had moved in, and rather than sensibly wait for sale (which actually took months), they served notice immediately and then had to back-track. This caused huge anxiety, and they never once tried to find me another rental property, despite saying that they would. During that awful waiting period while prospective buyers traipsed through my home, John the sales agent made cynical and personal comments about what he thought was best for me and what I could afford, and even about some of my personal effects. I was only lucky to have the house bought at the eleventh hour by a great private landlord, but not before I'd put a deposit down on a new place. It took both me and my new landlord several painful attempts to explain to Leanne the maths of my reimbursement and I had to wait days until she finally asked a colleague for help with it.

Leanne is Head of letting at this agency and is a very experienced, reliable professional.
Having used 2 other letting agents in Scarborough and been bitterly disappointed and let down, we sought out Leanne when she moved to Harris Shields.
Leanne is the only agent we have ever had in 10 years, who has the knowledgeable approach to a letting contract that appears fair to both parties. From a landlords perspective she ensures our property is cared for, her communication is diligent and her work ethics allow her to offer added services that are sorely lacking with other agents.
After many years with Leanne as our agent, we trust her implicitly and her staff she manages.

Thanks to both Leanne and Jo for another year of support from Harris Shields Collection. Yes business as usual re their high standards but this year they surpassed my expectations as I got in a fix and they got me out of it within hours! My heating engineer let me down at short notice and could not complete the annual gas appliance inspection before my certificate ran out. Harris Shields sorted this within 24 hours. Their engineer was contacted, he serviced and tested the appliances, issued the landlords certificate and all with a day to go! Well organised by all concerned!

We purchased a property for this Estate Agent and after many tragedy's with other agents in Scarborough, episodes of gazumping and rude staff, we cannot praise this company enough, form the moment our offer was received, the house was was taken off the market and other viewings cancelled. We felt for the first time looked after and not scared of loosing the house.
