Me and my girlfriend decided to move back to Notts after studying at uni a few years ago, during that time I dealt with several agency's and even worked for one myself.
In searching for a new place we dealt with 4 agency's including David James and thanks to Cody and especially Grace I'm pleased to say they were the most easy to deal with; there fee's were significantly cheaper than the other company we were looking to go with and importantly as we were coming from long distances to sign and complete forms, we could do it almost all online. This was great as my girlfriend couldn't get out of working in London at the time, we also only needing one person present at move. Other agency's were requiring us to give up significantly more time and travel expenses so it really did help.
As for the property, there have been a few maintenance issues and the inventory did miss off one or two things on move in, it could have also been a bit cleaner before move in but that was down to our landlord. The important thing is I've never had to wait longer than a day to get a response from an email to Grace so that has really been appreciated. Often in the past I've felt agency's don't care once you've signed so Grace has been a great help and a credit to the company and most of the issues have to now been rectified or will be shortly. I hope this level of service continues!

I purchased a property this month from David James Mapperley as a 100% cash buyer. I found the person allocated to deal with my purchase was very unapproachable and at times extremely confrontational. She caused me a lot unnecessary anxiety. Her replies to my questions on the telephone were mostly "stroppy" and at one point when I asked if the vendor would consider trimming £250.00 off the asking price because the survey picked up some issues which were considerably more than this amount she said in so many words, that I shouldn't have had the level of survey I chose to have done on the property. For her interest I had a level 2 which is one most people have. Throughout the process I felt I uneasy to ask questions. On the morning I collected the keys the person in question was standing in the background and there were no customers in the shop. I said hello which she acknowledged but at no time did she make an effort to greet me at reception. She left the receptionist to hand over the keys. I believe it is only common courtesy and good business practise to thank your customers for their business and wish them well for the future. Obviously my business did not contribute enough towards her commission. I would never use David James again.

I was a (single occupancy) tenant at a house that was recently sold through David James estate agent in Mapperley. My experience with them started out well enough (they seemed courteous and friendly at first), but ended truly abysmally.
I returned home one night (I had given the agents a key for viewings) to find that my back door had been left unlocked, and was wide open; there had been a viewing earlier that day. When I came home the next day, I returned to find the exact same sight, hours after another viewing at which I was not present.
When I rang David James to highlight the issue and request an explanation, they promised to investigate. However, 2 days later the lady I spoke to flatly insisted that the agents had closed and locked the back door on both days, and point blank refused to apologise, stating that she "wasn't prepared to take responsibility for what happened"; she even went so far as to insinuate that the back door might have somehow been "faulty", though this alarming fault had somehow failed to materialise in the 2 and a half years I had been living at the property.
I concede that there was thankfully no harm done - but that's not the point. My back door was left unlocked and wide open, twice, and anyone could have conceivably let themselves in during the several hours I was not at home on both days. To make matters worse, the lady at David James was obstinate and rude, and her stubborn refusal to even offer a simple apology was frankly baffling. It was, without a doubt, the worst customer service I've experienced in a very, very long time.

I came to David James through a recommendation a good 2 years ago. I only have a singular property and this is where I feel I have gone wrong as I am not a big enough client for them to actually care about my thoughts to them. I last rented my property and explicitly said I cannot afford to have the property empty for weeks on end and they managed to fill the house with little gap. This time round they have told me that the quick turn around was a mistake and has left me with unrealistic expectations. We have known the tenant would be leaving since mid March and they promised that starting the search mid April would give us plenty of time. Which it hasn't. I also think they were so keen to push the rent up totryand make more money out of the rental has delayed the process further. I expressed my upset and instead of offering a good will gesture they have reduced my notice of termination which actually if I go with leaving will cost them more. My property is an easy low maintenance one with no issues and rather than wanting to keep my business have basically highlighted how much they do not value ongoing relationships. Massively disappointed by the whole process

Expensive. Vat on top. Don’t use their tradesmen as those costs are inflated to. This is something that I managed myself to save money even though I was paying them to do it.

With the effort, time and stress it took to manage the people in lettings, it would have been cheaper and easier to manage my property myself

Any money savings were minimal at best and speaking with James and then Michelle at David James made our decision easy.
We actually ended up selling and buying a property with David James. It can be an extremely stressful and emotional time both for the people buying your property and the property we were buying. Working with David James, who have vast experience and have probably dealt with every situation before helped massivily with the buying/selling process.
Everyone we spoke to at David James was professional and everyone clearly works as a team. We can only say Michelle our main contact went above and beyond, she helped to sell our property at a price we wanted but also negotiate the price on our new property. We personally believe this is something that an online agent would not offer and if/when we decide to move again we would go with David James.

I have now had two viewings for rental properties through David James and on each occasion I have had a prompt response to enquiries. I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful and my appointments took into account my work commitments, which I found really helpful.
Luke has accompanied each of the viewings and was exceptionally professional, patient and proficient and offered me sound advice, due to difficulties I was experiencing in my rental property at that particular time.
I have left messages with a number of estate agents about rental properties and have found some to be extremely unhelpful and often failing to respond to my enquiries, which is deeply frustrating.
I would certainly recommend David James estate agents to my friends and colleagues, whether selling or renting a property. The service overall is excellent.
