The process for one tenant moving out and the other one staying . Joint tenancy to a sole tenancy was beyond stressful . The company does not do a “change in tenancy agreement “ so we had to terminate the joint agreement and create another one . This left me , (the tenant staying ) with constant unnecessary changes and added pressure just to stay in the property .
I had to cancel my tenancy
I had to go through the application process again
I had to fork out a months rent upfront
I had to manually pay rent from agreed “ termination dates “ then manually pay the rest of the month because I was staying
At one point safety deposit was to be given back to me just to be handed back to them because I was staying . Luckily we managed to do a top up rather than go through the extra stress of that .
I had £12 added on by the company because when paying manually , they somehow charge a daily rate so it ended up more than the monthly rent amount .
Touchstone systems do not recognise joint tenancy to sole tenancy so I was constantly emailed standard moving out processes which was extremely worrying . From a legal and audit point of view I felt it necessary to counter act this by emailing back highlighting the correction . This caused extremely stressful moments between myself , the admin team and housing officer . I think touchstone should be more professional and keep audit trails that are specific to the actual tenant agreement especially binding contracts , paperwork etc and take it more seriously and understand the possible risks to the company and the tenant , if there was a dispute of any kind that resulted in court .
With me being the primary tenant on the lease , for me this process to take one tenant off and keep one on was in no way worth the stress I had to go through to inform the company of this change and it is dissapointing in a company as big as Touchstone , that they couldn’t of supported the change , in the middle of COVID19 to have a better transition For all parties involved .
