Worst. Experience. Of. My. Life. I have been writing too much about my experience with City Rooms, so I like to keep it short as a WARNING for everyone that is looking for a room in London.
- Don't. Use. It. The rooms advertised are fake. We found a nice room in Shoreditch on Spareroom. Got in contact, been invited to 'the office', asked if the office was nearby the address - no response. Turned out this is a way to get people in. Guess what? Non of these rooms were available.
- We were in a rush, and new to London. Had to pay upfront for a viewing. We did, and that was the worst decision ever
- House in horrible condition. 24/7 line never worked (got text messages from the line being close as evidence), bills not included, no background check with tenants.
- Lived with a dangerous tenant, turned out he was illegal. He paid the rent, so guess that is enough to city rooms. Didn't work. Smoked in the room - no warning given, nothing.
- We experienced no warm water, no water, no internet, incredible leaking, mice, bad cleaners, bad locks, bad state of room. For 1200£ a month!!!
- NO customer support, the worst experience with other tenants, filthy, dangerous, CRIMINALS they put into these houses. They simply don't care!
- we have so many emails, whatsapp conversations as proof that this agency is one big scam
- Big tip: Cityrooms got recently fined for 10K - this can be checked under the Mayor of London Assembly. Check 'Oliver Walton Limited' this is the official name behind Cityrooms. (Proof on bank account as this is the name we transferred rent to) Oh, and check the 2015 stories about 'The City Rooms - were they got fined. Makes total sense.
- One big maffia gang and surprised that they are still operating. They should be illegal. Why is is that such corporations are still aloud to do business after all? All these fake 5* reviews - lived with a roommate that literally left the house because she felt that her safety was in danger. Why is there such little support towards tenants in London? Why is it that we pay so much money - and get this back? We just want a nice place to live, do our work, our studies - and then we meet an agency such as City Rooms. I regret every step, and surprised that I have never did thorough research. I guess that I have never heard about City Rooms until I was confronted with the sales woman selling lots of ****.
I'm currently renting from a private landlord. A beautiful house, honest man and great price in a fantastic area. City Rooms is like a valuable lesson for life that teaches you to be critical when moving abroad.
You. I hope you are reading this before you put your £250 deposit down with them. Run away from them, if you can. And, if you put your deposit down - don't continue. See it as an 'expensive' lesson, but it will be always cheaper than to continue with City Rooms. There is much better out there, and I wish someone else told me this before. These guys are criminals. Everything is on police record with them - because this story is worse than I'm currently writing. I have never experienced such incompetent company, bunch of unprofessional poor people together. Hungry for money - and that's it. The houses are the worst. Been in two of them.
There should be a law against such corporations/agencies. No one deserves this. Not even your worst enemy.
Do NOT rent with City Rooms.
