I was very disappointed with the lack of professionalism from Foxtons. They rented us a property with numerous problems- mice infestation, filthy (although they claimed it had been professionally cleaned), a shower which did not work (and took 6 weeks to fix), generally falling apart in places, glass missing from a panel in the back door, bailiffs coming round because of debts owed by the landlord. Although I appreciated a lot of these problems stem from the landlord, I have no sympathy for Foxtons. If they are renting out a property in their name, they should have a better grasp on the condition of the property. They either did not know the problems of the property- or simply did not care. Probably the latter, given that we are currently still experiencing problems (leaking shower, bailiffs) and yet as we are moving out next month, Foxtons are STILL bringing prospective tenants to view the house. Their property management scheme is a farce. They claim that this means that we just deal with Foxtons directly and don't have to worry about getting hold of the landlord but they are just a middle man. Yes, Foxtons did react quickly to some of our problems by sending over their contractors BUT if the landlord said no, or decided to send their own contractors Foxtons have no say in this- they fundamentally have no control over the property. This meant this year we were left in a position where workers were being sent out and then the landlord was refusing their work, 2 weeks later sending their own contractor who failed to do the work etc. I would not recommend Foxtons to anyone. Their fees are excessive and they portray themselves as professional but they are only concerned about making money and are merely a middle man between tenants and landlords. I will be avoiding them like the plague in future.
