I bought a house through Chancellors and they lied the entire way through the process.
I bought based on a completion date of March 22. The agent agreed this was possible because the seller had completed their end and would move in with family while their house was built.
March came and went. As did April, May and June. The agent just kept letting the dates slip. Each time I called, they said it was all a misunderstanding and we'd complete any day. My solicitor was reporting issues up the chain (the chain that didn't exist according to Chancellors).
I asked Chancellors many times if the seller had changed their purchase and they said no.. all a misunderstanding.
Finally completed in July 22 and when collecting the keys, a different agent mentioned what a nightmare it had been that the seller had pulled out and started again with a new house (assuming I knew).
I complained to Chancellors and their director responded that it wasn't in my interests to know that the seller changed purchase! That because they were breaking chain regardless, to accommodate me, it was decided that it wouldn't impact my purchase! But it did! Because of problems with their new purchase, they decided not to break chain. The difference was 4 months, leaving me with nowhere to live and in a state of uncertainty for months, while they kept lying.
Chancellors knew I was buying a date. I had a deadline to move and if we couldn't meet the March date, I was going into rented while I waited for a different house. So when the seller pulled out of their onward, Chancellors chose to mislead me, so that I wouldn't pull out.
I would never sell through Chancellors or buy (even if I loved the house). I'll choose an agent who respects their clients enough to be honest.
