We signed up to Mayhews and was promised a lot. Afterall, we were due to pay them a lot on completion! The promised weekly updates never appeared. The promised open day, to attract eight potential buyers, in fact attracted two. The promised no hassle service through to completion was one long nightmare. We were promised one dedicated sales person from start to finish. We ended up with four! The estate agent in Devon, Helmores, through who we were buying our new house, knew more than Mayhews. The biggest shock was when Helmores told us that our buyers had to sell two properties to buy our house! Mayhews had always told us that they only had one to sell. The implications of this just added to the time scale and stress. We would ring Mayhews for updates, and never recieve any. Promised calls back would not happen. Only if you physically went into the office would you find out any information. Once we had had enough, and decided to air our complaints, one of the agents agreed that we had not had the level of service that we were paying for. He agreed that if it was down to him, then we would be due a reduction on our fees. Mr. Mayhew then stated quite firmly that no reduction would be forthcoming, as he had ' kept his side of the contract' ie. selling the house. I for one would not recommend Mayhews to anyone. If you want to sell your house, take some nice photos and join an internet estate agent. It will save you thousands.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Kept to his promises from the start. Offered us a reduction in his fees.

Jun 24, 2014We are very sorry Mr Mrs Metcalf were disappointed with our service. I personally progressed their sale and spent many hours speaking with solicitors and agents. Mr & Mrs Metcalf promised to vacate and then changed their mind and this caused a lot of stress in the chain. The buyer found our service was very good and even came in to our office to thank the team. I think this was more about getting a fee reduction than service. Chris Mayhew

Mayhews were the estate agent we used to sell our house in Horley. We had used them for moving from our flat and buying our first house- and although we invited three local estate agents round, we chose Mayhews because they were great the first time round. Ed and team were clear with the process from the beginning. We had quite a pressure with selling and moving as it was due to my husband relocating for work and we had been given a deadline by his work. We got on the market quickly and viewings were arranged, and we sold within a month or so last year in May. We moved to the Midlands three weeks ago, however the length of time it took was no fault of Mayhews. Unfortunately the chain broke twice along the way (something that was out of our control) and while we were holding on for our buyers, Mayhews advised us to go back on the market after Christmas and start the viewing process again as there was an issue at the bottom of the chain. Thankfully we sold again soon, and through clear communication with Karen who is the progressor, we were so grateful to have been able to keep the house we were buying and eventually make the move, while my husband's work also gave him some leeway with the deadline. We had prayed for the Lord to work in the situation, and we saw it all come together! Thank you Ed, Karen, and team!

When we lost a buyer, their team stepped up their excellent marketing and got us a new buyer within 2 days, so we didn't lose our house we were buying!
They also offered WhatsApp messaging, which was great and quick to use in time of need!

We purchased our new home through Mayhews Horley branch. This branch has a great team of friendly and professional people on board, who were very helpful throughout the whole purchase process. In error I chose an appalling solicitor. So although a buyer was found very quickly, and their offer was accepted, due to the inefficiency of the solicitor, the sale took almost nine months to complete.
Both Ed and his letting agent Karen kept me up to date at all stages, supported me as an elderly landlord living abroad, and quickly responded to every email I sent to them. They were a brilliant team!
