I had dealings with two people predominantly in this office. One was very professional (and the other, *, I found to be utterly convinced of his own importance and blissfully unaware of how he made us feel in viewing a 'lower end' house at under £350,000. His comments (on more than one occasion) about his clients who buy houses prices in the millions "*" quite put us off doing business with the firm. In fact, he was so rude and condescending to my wife that I had to restrain myself from sinking to the same level and punching him on the nose several times! We came a long way to visit several properties and it almost put us off buying on Cornwall. I have no idea how "*" this man is tolerated by those who work with him and for him and having spoken to various other agents in the town (who seemed eager to gossip about him) it seems most others feel the same way about him, especially his colleagues and his neighbours! It is NEVER acceptable to throw your weight around because you have money Mr Lillicrap, or to look down on others who do. It is not professional or nice behaviour and you were VERY rude. Enough said.

Apr 18, 2014Response from Ian Lillicrap :- This website could and probably often does serve a useful purpose and I welcome it's existence . However, sadly, the lack of any facility for posts to be checked for honesty / motive leaves both the website and estate agents wide open for abuse and libel. It is a sad indictment of the mentality of some members of society today when what I can only imagine is a grudge or envy or suchlike is expressed with such vitriol and so personally in a public forum such as this website by means of a totally libellous narrative bearing not one scrap of factual accuracy. I know that the Cockcroft statement is fiction for the following reasons :- 1 . I have never in 35 years in estate agency in Cornwall dealt with people with this name . How can I be so sure ? Because I have friends with this name and it would therefore have immediately registered with me. 2. The complaint clearly purports to come from a buyer ' with £350,000 to spend ' ; however, for the last 6 or 7 years my role in our firm is exclusively working with vendors and prospective vendors . 3 . The complaint mentions these people had come a long way to Cornwall to view / find properties - i.e. they are far from local , yet they then appear to know where I live - they speak of my neighbours ! I could go on, but I am comforted that an intelligent and lucid reader will , just like I have , see this sad alleged complaint for precisely what it is : wanton abuse of a website which exists to provide honest people of integrity with the opportunity to comment . Above all, I , just like my 21 colleagues at Lillicrap Chilcott , are massively proud to act for vendors of the very smallest and 'lowest end of market' homes and plots in Cornwall from which I and my colleagues always have and continue to derive great enjoyment : anyone who knows me and my firm will be in no doubt about that, I feel very sure ! We could not , for the past one and a half decades , have been more emphatic about that relentlessly - it's how we are . And the proof of that is in our register of property for sale and in our firm's property sales' history which speaks for itself. I hope the competitor who I believe has posted this libellous complaint can sleep easy ,being evidently rather bitter and twisted. Meantime, I and my colleagues will continue to do what we have done at Lillicrap Chilcott for the past 13 years , namely offer as professional and complete a service for our respected and valued clients and to buyers from all over the UK and from around the world whether they are spending £100,000 are a great deal more. At last I have returned to Cornwall and have this opportunity to put in writing my disgust at the way we were treated and cheated by this agency. As local people, moving away from Cornwall due to redundancy, we put our self built house in Truro with Lillicrap (former Millers employee). We had ... Read Full Review

Avoid Lillicrap Chilcott like the plague - unless you like being gazumped and deceived! Unfortunately, we were recently gazumped by LC and seller on a beautiful St Ives property. All parties had amicably agreed the sale/purchase two months earlier, and we were on the brink of exchanging ... Read Full Review

Tried to buy a small piece of agricultural land via this outfit. On all of their marketing and conversations prior to my off was no mention made of there being an existing tenant farmer. Also obviously no mention that vacant occupation could be possible. The earliest I heard of this was after I ... Read Full Review
