We had an awful experience with Acorn and its two salesmen: Keith Suttle and Yil Sherif. We were in a chain which included buying a 3 bedroom new-build in Brockley through them. Our buyer had a delay with their mortgage and without informing us - and despite the fact that we had paid a £2K holding deposit - Acorn put the property back on the market (without telling us).
When we noticed this on Rightmove they assured us they would not be showing anyone around or selling it but re-marketing it as a precaution purely to reassure their client. They assured us that the house was sold to us. However, within a week we saw online that the house was under offer!
This is despite the fact that even if our buyer had pulled out we would have been able to let out the flat we were selling and purchase the Brockley property. However, they never gave us the opportunity to use this plan B. They simply dumped us without even having the courtesy or professionalism to let us know and, three months later, have not returned our £2k deposit. When we rang them to try and find out what was happening them they did not even have the guts or decency to take our call. Suddenly they were "busy" and of course never rung us back when we left a message.
We are young family and had behaved impeccably throughout the process, constantly keeping them informed and being very quick with our paperwork. We had set our hearts on this house as our first proper family home and didn't deserve to be treated in this fashion. Aside from the disappointment of losing the house, we have lost almost £3,000. I hope that other people read this and can avoid the experience we had.
Keith and Yil will be all "sweetness and light" if you are a prospective client but they have absolutely no morality whatsoever and will drop you like a stone if they think there is a bit more commission in it for them.
They recommended we use a particular solicitor firm. What they "forgot" to mention was that they actually received a £500 commission for referring us, something which (if we had completed) would have come out of our pockets, and something which they did not disclose and we only found out subsequently from the solicitor. A more dishonest and unprofessional pair, you could not meet.
