Where to start...
I realised something was dodgy about this agency when upon viewing the property, I found a member of staff in the bushes close-by, looking for a key to open the front door. Not in a secured place, or hidden in a "fake stone", nope, just there in the plants. When I questioned him about that, he answered in broken English saying he "never did viewings anyway" as he worked in the finance department.
The day I moved in, I realised there was an impressive amount of black mould on the walls, hidden behind the curtains ( the said curtains were pinned back when I saw the room, I should have looked behind...). I emailed them about that, and they answered that it was " my responsibility as a tenant " (even though I had been there for one day) and that I should probably invest in bleach.
Within one month, I also discovered that there was a plumbing issue: every time we used the washing machine ( or when the upstairs neighbours used theirs...), brown sewage water would go up the sinks, in the kitchen and bathroom, as well as the bathtub. The previous tenant told me it had been going on since he'd moved in, and that a plumber had had to come, but nothing changed. Once, the water went up, but didn't go out. We had to call a plumber, and when told about that, Ace Relocation rudely told us it was surely caused by us being dirty, leaving food in sinks, and that we should review the way we lived ( considering we had basket strainers in the sinks, no food got in anyway). The ended up taking the plumber's bill off our deposit.
The cherry on top was when I finally moved out... I was surprised to see a copious amount - around £300 - taken off my deposit (on top of the plumber's bill). When I asked why, I was told that I had been charged too little upon moving in, due to a mistake they'd made. I was never notified of this, and the person who had made this mistake, a year before, had conveniently stopped working there. They were then charging me without telling me, without any documentation to back that up, just to fix a mistake on their end.
When I argued - obviously - with a very rude man over the phone, he told me "not to be stupid" and that there was nothing I could do.
I had to threaten them to get my lawyer involved, to which the weasels got scared and I finally got my money back.
A nightmare from the first day. Avoid at all costs !
