We were charged over £800 just to cancel our contract two months early without being told what this money was actually for. Then when we moved out, they took every opportunity to skim money from our deposit. First it was claiming items were missing, because later conceding that these items never existed in the first place. Then it was trying to charge us £50 to change the battery in a plastic smoke alarm and hundreds in cleaning fees to clean a cheap beige carpet which was dirty when we moved in. The firm is a complete scam. We were paying nearly £2000 pm in rent and paid over £2000 in fees but this still wasn't enough for them.
On the day we first moved in, we had to stand outside with our van for two hours because apparently that's a good time to come round and do an in-depth inventory check! (I've never experienced this before or since) My partner also had to take over the viewings when we were looking for replacement tenants because the Dexter's staff weren't even talking to the viewers as they went round and failed to mention things like the huge attic with storage space. They're just amateurish and their entire business model is to swindle tenants out of as much money as they can for as little work as they can put in. Thankfully we're with a letting agent now who charged us about 20% of the fees levying against us by Dexter's. Avoid.
