I have literally had the worst experience with Gascoigne Pees. Firstly we viewed the property with Carly. We wanted to take the place but advised her that my partner was self employed and in his first year so could not provide a tax return just yet. She advised us that there is always a way around it. So we decided to pay the £500 fees.
Once it came to the referencing, it turns out that my partner wouldn't get through without either a guarantor or a tax return according to Carly after reassuring us we would be okay.
So we finally find a guarantor as per her request, but when we call back she said the landlord didn't want a guarantor - so why did she even suggest it in the first place?
Throughout this time she was extremely unhelpful and unprofessional. We felt like we had been misled.
Finally thanks to chris, our garentor gets accepted. But this was a lot of hassle already!
On the date of moving in, Gemma met us at the property and stated that she had checked the smoke alarms. Then our guarantor signed the papers and said she had turned the heating on and left without giving us any information about the property.
Within the space of 30 minutes we realised that there was no power at all, we called the Branch however we were told Gemma was still on her way back so we had to wait for her to get back. So we spent about an hour trying to figure out how to turn the electrics on.
When we finally receive a phone call back, she just tells us that we are on a Pay as you go electric meter. This is not stated in the documents received (it states we are with spark electric!) and we were never informed of the electrics being on a Pay as you go meter even when inspecting the property because that could have potentially swayed our decision to rent the property.
The electrics should have been checked prior to us entering the property as well as being informed. Furthermore, we had to take the Pay as you go meter out of debt (emergency) from the previous person in the property. I personally think this is extremely unfair, and isn't a nice welcome having to pay off someone else's meter before even living in the property! We have not had ANY reimbursement of the funds.
The service that we have had since the beginning with Gascoigne pees has been extremely poor and unhelpful, and I can state that we were never treated this badly at our previous estate agents.
Comment on agent fees
£500 fees, was taken off deposit once confirmed the flat, however due to them wanting to decline references at first we would have lost that £500 which is not TCF.
