The worst estate agents I have been through! Inflexible terms after a year of renting and poor lettings management team! The lettings manager we were dealing with, has a poor attitude, rarely responded (no out of office either), rarely addressed any issues raised in emails, and when they did it was only after several chases.
It started off very promisingly, Stacey Gough the Lettings manager arranged our contract for the property at very short notice and answered all of our questions promptly and politely. As soon as they had our money the service stopped, the lettings management team were terrible. Prior to moving in we'd asked if there was an available lawn mover as we were moving from a flat to a house with a garden, it was a categorical no. On arrival we found that not only was there a lawn mover, but it was also on the inventory report… strange, seeing as its in black and white on documents they posses and claim to have been through?!?! The house when we arrive was filthy, bits and grime in the cupboards, the carpets, cupboard doors off, drawers stuck, blinds broken curtains half hung. They'd let us know that as it was short notice, the house was ‘ready with exception of the bins being emptied and grass needing to be mowed'. What we didn't expect was to have to clean the house top to bottom. The bins were not just full, they were overflowing and they never came to remove the rubbish and there were broken children's toys and barriers in the sheds. It took us over a month to clear the previous owners rubbish from the property. Added to which the boiler didn't work. There was an overwhelming smell of damp in the kitchen and it was clear from the walls behind the cupboard that there was a persistent issue, the issue continued to the shower room where black mould would appear on the walls within days of cleaning, despite windows being open. We reported the issue, as presumably the owner would be concerned about their property and wish to have it looked at. Apparently not. We were told that the property was old and needed to be ventilated. No check, nothing. All very good and well at the peak of the summer but during the winter is it really feesible to have all your windows open? As the year went on, the fence broke, cupboard drawers fell off and we eventually persuaded them to have an extractor fan put into the shower, correspondence was slow, often weeks to respond and only after chasing did you receive a rather curt often rude or abrupt response. We decided that for the most part it would be easier and quicker to resolve issues ourselves.
A few months from our contract coming to an end we'd put an offer in on a property and asked if we could have a two month rolling contract after the first year. They would let us move onto a two month rolling contract only after signing up for another six months, which wasn't really feasible if we needed to also pay a mortgage. After almost a decade of renting I have NEVER experienced this inflexibility, if fact it is very normal to move onto a rolling contract after the first year but Finders Keepers would not let us do this, blaming the land lord.
Now that we have moved out of the property we have been told we are being charged for cleaning, and windows, they also wanted to charge us for lawn mowing ?!?!??! Having clearly send the lettings manager images of an unclean property with the inventory when we moved in it is a real cheek to now charge us. But then again in their usual style they've just ignored these points in the email.
I sincerely hope that the landlords don't mind their houses being run into the ground and get an amazing deal with Finders Keepers because as a tenant you get nothing in terms of value for money or service.
