The lettings agent was all over me like a rash when I handed my £25k to them upfront for the rental of a property which to my horror ended up having a list of problems.
The property management company that is used should be closed down as they are less that useless and all they do is keep citing the fact that I signed a contract and am bound my my contractual obligations, however, that obligation does not go both ways.
I had a raft of problems;
Cesspit pump not working, not fixed, boiler not working during November, took 7 attempts before actually working, leaving me without heating and hot water for a week, doors not shutting properly because they are swollen, as a result of the cesspit not draining properly, the toilets would not flush and therefore overfill with water and subsequent waste. Health hazard.
Damp wood in the bathroom, giving off hazardous spores, health hazard.
Hob stopped working. Took theme 4 days to advise that a technician would be in touch. I had to get a lawyer involved (at my cost) before they would start doing anything and kept using the excuse that the landlord was not available as he was in Singapore. I had paid a great amount of money upfront, yet a minimal amount was spent on the house.
It made me so unhappy that I left the house 2 and a half months before my tenancy is due to end. I was there for 10 months.
I was also advised that as I lived on my own, (whilst I was waiting for the boiler to be fixed) that I was not a priority because I had no children and was living in the house on my own. Discrimination.
I had to constantly chase them for updates on anything that I had reported and never once was given an apology for the lack of communication from them.
I have asked for leeway of a week to hand my keys in early. Am getting the cleaners in this saturday to make sure all is good but with the high winds etc. dust blows into the house, but I am expected to make sure that this is not the case up until the 28th,.
I dare say that I will have huge problems getting my £3k deposit back.
I will never ever rent from this company again and I most certainly will not be purchasing any property through them either.
Their treatment of me has been disgusting with a really bad attitude. On the last phone call I lost my temper with them, which is not professional, however dealing with them makes me incredibly angry.
