We were in touch with Luke and Magdalena throughout the whole process. At first, it was Luke and once he left the company, Magdalena.
Luke was the one who showed us the house, introduced us to the landlady and explained us everything. In our first meeting in the office, when he explained everything and we talked about the rent, payments and guarantors, he told us that we could use someone who was not based in the UK as a guarantor. Based on that information, we decided to put Elisa's mother, who lives and works in Spain. We told Luke this and he knew where she lived and worked. He explained that in Lauristons, they accept guarantors from abroad and that they had done that before.
Our guarantor received all the documents, spent some time reading them, completing them and making sure everything was okay. She sent all that was needed.
After all this and once we decided to go ahead with the house, we started to get in touch with Magdalena and not Luke. We thought it was simply because she will be in charge of the second part of the process and Luke had already done his part.
It was not until ONE WEEK BEFORE THE MOVING DATE that we were told that we couldn't use a guarantor who didn't live or work in the country. Obviously we told Magdalena that Luke had told us otherwise, and it was then when we found out he didn't work there anymore and therefore there was no way of contacting him to check.
At this point, we had already agreed on leaving our previous flat, had everything packed and had contacted a moving company to help us with our things. They told us that we needed a guarantor who lived and worked here and if not, we wouldn't be able to move. We had literally no place to go. We spoke with Magdalena and she was very helpful and kind at all times. She understood the situation and knew that it had not been our fault, so she suggested us forgetting about the guarantor and paying 6 months in advance instead. Obviously we needed time to come up with that huge amount of money. A few days later we told Magdalena that we had the money but it was coming from the States and it would probably take some time to get here. We waited until Friday, ONE DAY before the moving date, to see if the momey had arrived but the bank told us that it would not be here until Monday or Tuesday the following week, that is, 2-3 days after the moving day. We spoke again with Magdalena and Silvia and agreed to move on Saturday morning as scheduled and wait until Monday to see if we had received the money. Luckily, the money arrived on Saturday and we paid the 6 months the following Monday.
Even though everything turned out to be okay and we were able to move on time, we had an incredibly bad time with all this. Not only were we misinformed by Luke Fernandez, but we were also under a lot of pressure and stress and almost left on the street due to the lack of communication within Lauristons. We had to bother our relatives, ask for money and make people waste their time for nothing.
We really expect to get some kind of apology or compensation for all this, as we are not mother as our guafantor. She received all the papers tjat needed to be completed, spent some time filling everything and doing as requested. One week before the moving day, one week, we were rold by Magdalena that it was not possible tonuse a guarantor with how things were handled and we definitely did not have a good experience. And
Comment on agent fees
They are very high and there are way too many different fees for every little thing. It should be more simple than that.
