### A Cautionary Tale: My Bad Experience Renting with AT Home Estate Agency Renting a property can be a daunting experience, and unfortunately, my journey in West Sussex has been riddled with challenges, primarily due to a highly unprofessional agency—AT Home Estate Agency. If you're contemplating renting in this area, let me share my story to help you navigate the pitfalls I faced. #### The Beginning: A Promising Start Turns Sour Three years ago, my family and I were excited to find our new home in Heavengate. We believed we had made a wise decision, especially after paying six months of rent in advance. However, just six months into our lease, a “For Sale” sign appeared outside our house, catching us completely off guard. The agency failed to mention that the landlord was considering selling the property when we signed the lease. This lack of transparency forced us into a difficult situation, as moving expenses were already piling up, and we were not ready to start looking for a new place so soon. #### The Struggle to Find a New Place Despite the initial disappointment, we attempted to stay positive, thinking that it might be a minor hiccup. However, as we searched for another rental, the process proved to be exhausting and fraught with challenges. We reached out to AT Home to assist us in finding a new residence, but with each new move came additional costs—new deposits, removal expenses, and the stress of relocating, all while ensuring our children remained close to their school. After enduring this turbulent period, we finally settled into a new home, confident that we would enjoy stability this time. Little did we know, our troubles were far from over. #### A Sudden Eviction Notice: Section 21 Just over a year into our new lease, we received an unexpected email from At Home informing us of the activation of a Section 21 notice against us. This legal document, which allows landlords to evict tenants without giving a reason, was shocking for us. The feeling of insecurity and the prospect of having to search for yet another rental left us feeling frustrated and disappointed. Again, we faced new accommodation costs and the emotional toll of uprooting our family once more. #### The Bigger Picture: A System Favoring Landlords Ultimately, we found a delightful new home—cheaper than the previous ones and more suited to our needs. However, the entire experience left a bitter taste in our mouths. AT Home Estate Agency displayed a complete lack of respect for their tenants. They operated under a system that prioritized landlords’ interests over those of the tenants, which is disheartening. Their treatment of our deposits was particularly egregious; we were charged for repairs that were already conducted prior to our move-in, even though subsequent renovations were undertaken by the new owners. #### Conclusion: A Word of Warning In hindsight, my experiences with AT Home Estate Agency have been nothing short of disheartening. The frequent moves, unexpected costs, and lack of tenant rights make it a cautionary tale for anyone looking to rent in West Sussex. I strongly advise prospective renters to think twice before engaging with this agency. While my family eventually found a better home, the emotional and financial strain we endured could have been avoided. Remember, when renting, choose wisely—your peace of mind is worth it. Stay away from agencies like AT Home that fail to prioritize tenant welfare.

Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
