As an estate agent you would think Hamptons would understand better than anyone the stress and work that renters go through at the beginning and end of their tenancy agreement.... Not Hamptons! When I moved into my property the flat was filled with broken pots smashed picture frames, dirty laundry and dangerous electrical equipment. All of which was all documented on my inventory listed so that I was unable to depose of these items without permission. It took over a month for Hamptons to arrange someone to come and review the flat to realise that the flat was unsafe and unpleasant with the given items in it. Towards the end of my lease, Hamptons strongly recommended us to go with their cleaners which they would organise for you at a very expensive charge. For example, for a 3 bedroom flat- Hamptons would charge over £500! The shock is not over yet, Hamptons also state in small print that they will not be held responsible if their cleaners do not meet their expectations. Some might even think that this on some levels is breaking contract law because you can not provide and charge for a service without holding any responsibility for the outcome. I am now currently going through all the paper work to rent a different property with a different estate agent but I am yet to wait for a much needed reference from Hamptons which they now charge £30 for. £30 just to say via telephone that yes I have rented with them and that have not missed a payment. There is nothing rewarding or nice about renting with Hamptons because they really could not care any less about current tenants.

As a tenant having hamptons manage our property has been an ideal. We were left without a working shower and a leak in our ceiling for two months and were frequently ignored and passed around when we asked for these issues to be resolved. Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
