So myself and 7 others rented a house in Southampton through tenants direct. When we moved in we found that the previous tenants had not cleaned anywhere so we had to clean the house ourselves until 3 days later a cleaning crew turned up. We wrote a huge list of all the problems with the house to give to tenants direct to fix ASAP, this included vast amount of mould, rats, broken furniture and no gas certificate! I remember at one point i rang them up every day for about 3 months and spoke to some silly girls who said they would pass the message on and would fix the problems. So after hundreds of phonecalls to these girls that kept putting me on hold, the landlord came round and painted some of our walls- Obviously the mould came back so that was a waste of time. as students, we kind of needed furniture to write essays on and store our things. This was not amended until October (We moved in in July). So eventually after calling hundreds of time and getting incredibly angry with tenants direct, we decided to call the Enviromental protection agency, who came round and was shocked at the state of the house. The landlord and Tenants direct have both received countless letters which magically seem to go astray as every time i tell them about it, they refuse to know anything about it, which is odd, as we got the forwarding letter as well. Nobodys talked to us about the absent gas certificate, which is actually illegal not to have, its also worrying seeing as last month we had to rush our housemate to hospital because of breathing problems... He is the closest one to the gas box. Overall, tenants direct have stressed me out so much, im surprised i haven't had a stroke yet.
However, there is one good aspect of tenants direct. This is John Pierce, who is helpful, lovely and kind. He understood our struggle, and did everything he could to try and help us out with our situation, if only all the others that worked there were the same, it wouldn't be a bad company. John is the only reason why i havent completely gone insane. So, thank you John, for making the horrendous decision of going with tenants direct in first year, a little bit better.
What agent could do to change your mind?
If the agents had fixed even half of the things on the list i gave them when we first moved in, i may have been satisfied, but they just left us in a crumbling house where everything was so dodgy and horrible.
