I was a tenant with Martin & Co between 2009+2010.

Firstly they were happy to let a property where the bathroom had a ceiling that was thick black with mould. The place was full of moth balls which stunk the place out royally. I never actually got the smell out of the flat in the whole 12 months I was there. There was no silicone sealant around the bath and the tiles so the walls got so damp that the tiles actually fell off the wall in places. I sorted this all out myself.

Anyway I avoided having anything to do with the throughout my tenancy as I couldn't be bothered to deal with any more incompetency.

When it came time to depart the flat I spent 2 days scrubbing it from top to bottom to ensure it was clean and left it a thousand times better than it was when I first got the keys. When I got the checkout report through via email (not carried out in my presence) it listed things like "bin bags in outside cupboard" (it was a bin cupboard with a bin inside it...) and "fire tag missing from chair" (the chair was there when I moved in and had to remain despite it being very inconvenient for me). If they had simply cross referenced my check out report with the one they should have carried out when the last tenants left they would have seen all of these things on that too.
With all of these comments on the check out report they tried to deny me the majority my deposit back (£1200!). Thank goodness for the Deposit Protection Service! I tried to open up a line or correspondence with Martin & Co to try and resolve it civilly but all I received were some very unpleasant emails back from an Andrew Jest who it turns out is the owner. He tried to use bully boy tactics to try and get me to roll over and accept the deductions from my deposit. Fortunately I knew I was in the right and had fully documented everything during my stay there so when it came to sorting out the deposit I was able to prove the Martin & Co and Andrew Jest were incompetent and dishonest. As a result, I received the full amount of my deposit back.

I would never deal with Martin & Co again in any capacity. If you do have to, to get a property they are advertising, I fully recommend taking pictures and videos of it before you move your stuff in so that you have a leg to stand on when it comes to getting your money back as they will do anything to deprive you of it.

Absolute scum.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Not be vile creatures who try and squeeze every penny out of the Landlord/Tenant and not caring about their customers.

the agent should have met with me at many request to hand over apartment at the end of the lease, the review written was unfair and inconsequential, no passage of information from landlord to tenant. in the end I had to enlist the help of a credit collection agency.

Hi, just curious – I am a landlord who had convicted criminals put in my property ‘ fully’ referenced by an ‘independent’ referencing agency – the company was YOURMOVE and the referencing agency is not independent as it is owned by LSL who own YOURMOVE.
