Over the past three years or so, a number of tenants were allowed to come and go before the end of their tenancy, and they were replaced with new tenants without any formal handover or inspection. I was shocked that I was allowed to move into a rental property without being asked to sign the tenancy agreement, deposit protection certificate, or being issued with a copy of the check-in inventory report. I thought that this might go in my favour when we eventually vacated, however it appears that our security deposit has now been held back due to the lacklustre management side of the business. It doesn't help having a landlord that is unwilling to carry out necessary maintenance works that are affecting the structure of the building, however the property management side of the business were slow to keep us informed about any scheduled works. When the landlord decided to visit the property after a long period away from the country, maintenance issues were highlighted and us as the most recent tenants were targeted, when ultimately it was down to what we had inherited from the previous tenants. This was therefore a wake up call for the management team who would then conduct more regular property inspections. These so called 'inspections' consisted of people coming in to take photos with a digital camera of the issues that we had raised time and time again. This was a pointless activity and nothing ever transpired.
A very sad and disappointing experience. There are plenty of organised lettings agents/property management companies in South East London, sadly Peter James isn't one of them.
