We were served notice to move out of our old flat because the landlord was selling, which was fair enough. We started looking immediately and found a flat in a new build that we liked. On enquiring about the flat, we found out that the building self was not due for completion for another month or so. This was perfect as we had two months notice. Everything was provisionally agreed: rent, start date (initially the agent wanted to start earlier- presumably to get more rent but we refused and told her when our moving date was).
The agent constantly told us and reassured us when we chased up everything was fine and if there were a problem she would have told us, this was repeated at the viewing. The property itself was going through a sale and the potential landlord was still in the process of buying the property.
It became evident that there were indeed issues, as when we were asking for a contract and when we would be able to get the keys, there were constant excuses that she couldn't do it because the lawyers were holding up the process, and there was a dispute with fees. This exchange lasted until we just gave up, we had to make a decision either to go with another agent of a different company or stick and end up homeless on moving day. There appeared to be an ongoing dispute with the sale, it looked like she lied to us. The whole process caused us a significant amount of distress; there was constant reassurance that everything was fine and then no guarantee of a contract or keys!
When dealing with my partner she was very nice however when it came to dealing with me she was rude. Even telling my boyfriend to ¢â‚¬Å“advise¢â‚¬Â in an email that I was copied into! (A Backhanded comment in retaliation to when I noticed that she had sent us an exchange between her and a lawyer regarding a different property!)
