I cannot emphasise enough how absolutley disgustingly we have been treated by this "company". We are now seeking compensation through the courts and are expected to win hands down.
We have been subjected to - Lies, bullying, extortion, and just about anything else you can imagine.
We moved into a large house (our rent is just shy of £1000pcm) and we only had a rushed first visit due to the existing tenants being unaware we were coming. We repeatedly asked for a 2nd viewing, denied. The excuse was that the exiting tenants were uncontactable. To cut a very long, and sad story short - We turned up on our "Move in date" (having been given three dates!) to collect keys to be hit with another £100 fee to pay otherwise "we couldn't move in to our house" .. despite our whole entire house in a removal lorry and our 4 children waiting outside. We were then told that the landlord insisted we sign an insurance document for contents insurance despite us telling the manager we already had insurance.. we were told we had to sign it otherwise the landlords wouldn't allow us to live in the property. We signed it.
We then arrived at the house to be told we couldnt take anything into the house until the Inventory guy had finished- Two hours later.
When we entered the property the smell hit us at first - Mould and damp. The main bathroom was riddled with Mould and so was the ensuite. We hadn't been able to see this on our first visit as a baby had been asleep upstairs so we were only able to view the size of the rooms, not actually inspect them!
The whole house was filthy, there were lights held on by selotape, No working toilets!! No working showers and so many other things. We immediately contacted Connells who sent a guy out (looked no older than 14!) to make a list of the issues. This was on a Thursday.
We had to sleep on the lounge floor on the Thursday night - Myself, partner and a 1yr old and 2 yr old due to the horrendous smell of mould coming from the ensuite bathroom. I would not allow my children to breathe that in. SO on the Friday we then contacted Connells again, To be told the maintenance guy was on paternity leave and we'd need to wait for him to return. Everybody refused to come out (the branch manager, the area manager, maintenance company) and actually see what we were talking about. In the inventory it also clearly stated that Mould was in the bathrooms. We begged, pleaded for something to be done. We again spent the next night on the floor in the lounge. We still coouldn't shower, nor use the toilets.
We then had no heating on the saturday morning ... My partner sat in the branch office for 5 HOURS begging for the landlord to be called so that we could at our own cost replace a toilet so we could use a toilet.... Also for the heating to be fixed... they sent a plumber out .. after two hours to only inform us that British Gas are under contract - Eventually at 5.30 pm a BG engineer came out to fix the heating.
The branch agreed to contact the landlady at 3pm (ish) who gave consent immediately for us to replace a toilet. We then replaced a toilet and painted and decorated the whole ensuite bathroom in a night so that we could then sleep in our bedroom. The shower wasn't fixed for a WHOLE WEEK after we had moved in and the attitude was absolutely disgusting from the branch. So many lies were/have and are still being told. We have over 200 photos of the property taken just on our move in date. They have blamed our landlords, blamed us, and just about made every excuse under the sun ... No apology, No reasons.. So the court it is and then the papers!
There is so much more to this story but I hope to god this is enough to put anyone off.... Use at your own peril, I promise you that you will not be satisfied at all.
Connells in my opinion across the board have a bad name, I wish I had read this review site before using them.
I cannot find a review site full of praise for them at all.
Please ..... Make sure that yu ask for EVERYTHING to be emailed, take anything they say with a pinch of salt, and NEVER trust them!!
