This review is regarding the Stratford Branch at 142 The Grove, London, E15 1NS.
We arrived at the viewing that we had booked in the office one week previously, we waited outside the property for a few minutes before calling the estate agent. They said that our booking had been changed to be part of a group booking of 30 people 30 minutes later.
We went for a walk to explore the area, and came back to the property. Again, there was no one there to meet us so we rang on the bell thinking we may have missed the group. We stood outside the property for another 5-10 minutes before someone who lived in the block of flats showed us to the flat that was for sale.
As we were nearing the door (about 12 minutes after the estate agent said they would meet us), a group of 3 prospective buyers came out of the flat and the estate agent locked the door. We said we are here to view the flat and he siad "You are too late, youv'e missed the viewing". There was no apology or explanation. We asked if we could have a very quick glance around as we had travelled a long way for the viewing and we had in fact been waiting at the property and in the local area for the last 40 minutes. He then started walking off, saying that we were making him late for his next viewing at another property. We asked again if we could have a very quick look at the flat (as we were intending to place an offer on a flat that day), he said no and swore at us in front of the people he had been showing around.
As we exited the block of flats, he was very abusive and rude. Two other customers came up to him and said they were here for the viewing, again they were told they are too late although this was only 20 minutes after the group viewing supposedly started.
There was no explanation as to why he did not phone us to tell us we were now part of a group booking, confirm the viewing or check where we were. He knew we really wanted to see the flat but did not seem to care.
I phoned the branch manager to tell me of our terrible experience. He said that the estate agent had informed him of an 'incident' but neglected to tell him that he swore at customers in front of other customers. He said that the agent weould be dealt with and then tried to convince me not to "cut my nose off to spite my face".
I placed an offer on another flat later that day - and dealt with a lovely estate agent from one of their competitors.
It was an awful experience, I will never use Bairstow Eves - either to buy a property or letting one out.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Turned up to the viewing on time.
Informed us if he was running late.
Been polite/shown an interest.
Shown us around the flat.
Not sworn at us and other prospective buyers.
