When looking for a property Townends were on the ball and showed me several, I thought that was great. When we found what we wanted however the fees were exhorbitant - it worked out to £700 just to find a flat, other agencies are about £300 to £500, for that reason we felt hard done by. On the day we moved in we found the flat dirty and in a bad condition. The property is managed by Townends and has been poorly maintained, the lady doing the inventory didnt do it thoroughly and we had to e-mail in additional problems. If a repair is urgent it will get attended to within a few weeks, our landlord is Bulgarian and therefore there is a significant delay for any approval, a fact that we werent informed of until we signed our contract and there was no backing out, therefore no transparency. We've been told that we won't be charged for an end of tenancy clean as we didnt receive the flat clean but the fact that it stood empty for a week before we moved in showed the lack of care for clients & made our move more stressful. They are excellent until they obtain your custom and then the care and attention backs off. Staff are always friendly at least but the after service care is less than desirable. Overall a disappointment and we won't trust Townends again but at least they helped us find somewhere to live promptly and therefore they did their job.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Been more transparent, charge less fees - ‚£700 is ridiculous. Presented us with a clean flat on moving day and actually repaired faults BEFORE we moved in. We have cracked windows, loose bannister, broken skirtings, broken lace curtain railings & the list continues. Mainly things that a handy man could have easily done within a week. Knowing you are moving into a dirty home with an additional list of things to do on top of the stresses of unpacking was really not pleasant. I sincerely hope that we will not be charged when we move out for these things, Townends please take pride in properties that you manage, I no longer have trust in renting an agency managed property.
