MSE had a property I was interested so I send a message, via Zoopla, saying I'd like to view it. They responded quickly the next morning by email and leaving a message, so I was quite impressed. I called back and spoke to a friendly and engaged agent at some length describing what I was looking for. We arranged for me to visit the property I was interested in 2 days later and he said he would email me the postcode as well as details of other properties that might be suitable. The morning I was due to visit I had no message from him with the postcode so had to rifle through Zoopla trying to track down the property I was going to see, find the agents number and then ask for the post code (which meant minutes enduring the automated phone system of which more later¢â‚¬Â¦)
When you are actively house-hunting you might be viewing 6 properties in one day, all on with different agents, so when an agent can't be bothered to make some effort in helping make things a little easier it is very annoying. He said he had tried to email me but it had bounced back and had also tried to call me. Hmm. I'd had no messages from him on my mobile and wondered to myself why he hadn't just texted me the postcode to save me the trouble of ringing him again.
Unfortunately I was late to my viewing as I had a flat tire on the way. I telephoned to apologize and the agent was very understanding. As I was running late I asked if I could meet the lady doing the viewing at the petrol station in the village, as this was the one place I knew how to get to. Oh no, said the agent, it's only round the corner, and he gave me directions. Although I found the road easily I couldn't see a For Sale board anywhere. I called him again for more directions he insisted there was a board outside and inferred that I was a bit lacking because I couldn't see it. It was a very long road with several bends and cul de sacs all bearing the same road name, so it took me a long time to eventually find the house. By this time I was completely fed up and extremely irritated that every time I had called the agent I had to deal with the automated phone system which sometimes took a while to get through, during which I was forced to listen to tinny music¢â‚¬Â¦.. Ironically the house was extremely nice and ticked all my boxes. It was a shame that the agent couldn't stop talking during the viewing, pointing out the most banal and obvious things `this is the kitchen. This is the television, as you can see it's mounted on the wall', and yet she forgot to say anything about the solar panels which I only noticed when I was driving away. I would have thought they would have been quite a saleable feature.
But because my viewing experience was so ghastly I just felt unfairly negative about the house. While I could not blame anyone for the bad weather, getting lost and my flat tire, the fact that the agency could not put themselves out to meet me in a more central location, gave me misinformation about the For Sale board, didn't contact me with the post code and forced me to endlessly navigate an unnecessary automated phone system and listen to terrible musak whenever I called them, left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Many agents call the next day for customer feedback. Not surprisingly there was no call from MSE so I had no opportunity to give my good and bad feedback. And I certainly could not stand to waste any more time calling and being forced to listen to their tinny music while waiting endlessly to be put through.
I have gone to the trouble to write this lengthy review as while the Internet makes looking for a property easier it also means that many agents, such as this one, make very little effort at all, expecting the customer to do all the work. If I was a prospective vendor I would avoid this company which seems to run its business along the same customer unfriendly lines as Ryan Air.
