I have the misfortune of being a tenant in a property managed by Spicer Haart. On check- in I found that the kitchen sink was not draining. 14 days to rectify and during that period several blatant lies including confirming a contractor had been to correct the issue. I live in a 24 hour concierged property and can leave keys for repair works that are signed in and out ....
The latest saga started 10 days ago with no heating. After reporting the issue and promised a return call nothing for 24 hours. I chased, and promised a response. Next day no response. Day 3 and an unrelated but distressing experience - the exterior door handle to my bedroom was loose and in the morning when I got up it fell off when I tried to open the door, locking me in. They did arrange for the onsite handyman to break in my removing the exterior door lock and removing the letterbox to do so. however the farce was that despite assurances that both doors would be repaired immediately it has taken 6 days.
I have made circa 20 calls and similar levels of emails in the intervening period.
Apart from the failure to call back general lies. Specifics are:
BIG LIE 1. As your property is unsecure (owing to a gaping hole where letterbox was so you can just reach in an open the door) this is an emergency and we ( property management) do not need landlord permission to get it fixed. I will call you with contractor details ASAP and it will be done today. After no call I chased and was told that they were waiting for landlord (who lives abroad) permission.
BIG LIE 2. After many emails and calls on trying to get doors and heating fixed I was ( in writing - ie email) last night (5 days later for door issue, 7 for heating) that a contractor was instructed and "I have spoken with the contractor ..... He will be there tomorrow, please leave keys with concierge" . After repeatedly chasing during today for confirmation that work was completed I was finally told at 5:30pm that "the contractor did NOT recieve the instructions. Well dear reader imagine my reaction at this point....... After expressing my displeasure ( in eloquent terms of course......) when the response was "well we have done everything required......" I did point out that a reasonable person would assume "I have spoken to and confirmed" meant that. As it transpires what actually that means is "I sent an email to someone, to which there was no response because it was an incorrect email address and I didn't get a reply but that's practically the same thing"
To end the sorry tale. I am now in a hotel nearby, and highly suggest that no one has this misfortune of dealing with the ineptititude
