One of the most stressfull and regretful decisions of my life.
I had just started a new job, excited to move into a new place to be closer to work!
Coming in to collect my keys, I was told the property was "fully furnished and ready to move in". Great!!
.....
WHAT A JOKE
.....
Firstly the key didn't unlock the front door!! It required a code to unlock. Thankfully by knocking and banging, someone else let in. Otherwise I was in for a cold night on the streets! (Which, in hindsight, would have been a better idea than venturing any further).
Secondly, there was a layer of dust in my room, oh well I'll clean it up myself!!
next, the furniture I asked for wasn't there, oh well I'll make do!!
then I went downstairs to the "fully furnished" kitchen get some food after moving in. Not a single cup, plate, knife, fork, saucepan, bin etc in sight. NOTHING. Oh well I'll go out buy something!!!
Then I thought I'd have a hot shower, surely there would be hot water, what could be more basic than hot water!
....
should have known better! No hot water at all! Oh well, cold showers are good for you!!
Then I thought I'd relax after a refreshingly (if only!) cold shower by using the WiFi, surely that work!
Technically it did "work", if by "work", you mean would connect and give you a few minutes of competence followed by 10 minutes of literally nothing.
Ok, maybe downstairs in the kitchen it might work better...
Or it might be just as bad.
So I call up and explain these minor oversights to these cowboys.
Ok so then maybe 2 weeks later the electricity in the kitchen stops working.
We call them up, because there's a house of hungry people with no way of cooking food, and 2 fridges of food that is going bad.
So an electrician comes and fixes the kitchen
...
for maybe 5 or 6 hours!
The next day it's fixed again, or is it?
...
Of course not! It all goes out within maybe 2 or 3 hours this time.
Great job guys!!
So by then all of my perishable food has gone bad.
Ok so fast forward another week or so later, I have contacted a member of Filtons no less than FIVE times (yes, five) to tell them that there is STILL no hot water in the shower. I had been using the upstairs shower in the meantime which is either cold (as in absolutely cold) or so hot it physically scalds you, regardless of where the dial thingy is pointing. You also get only about 4 minutes in the shower before the water, unable to drain out due to a blocked drain, spills out over the recess. I wish I was exaggerating.
By this time, maybe half (definitely not all) of the problems had been fixed, and due to hating moving house, I had decided that I would like to extend my contract from one month to two, to enable me a bit more time to move out somewhere nicer. Initially, staying here even a day longer than neccessary was unthinkable. But I got along well with my hosuemates and wanted some time to find a better place. But no, I couldn't renew my contract. I had 7 days to move out, as they had already conned in a new victim to take over my room.
Oh well, I'll just cancel a holiday I'd already partially booked to spend a few days frantically looking for a new place. No big deal.
I am now happily settled into a new room with a different agent. This one is clean, has hot water, electricity, and keys that unlock the front door, awesome!
Despite Filtons being nice on the phone and promising to "look into" issues, they basically did nothing until half the household bombarded them with angry calls. They suck you in, take your money, then they don't want to know you.
I am not being harsh on these people, I am used to "roughing it" in cheap accomodation from backpackers to park benches. I am used to bad service. I hardly ever complain and I am keen to give people the benefit of the doubt. I haven't even bothered mentioning a few of the other issues in the house! But these scammers need to be exposed.
A terrible, regrettable decision.
Stay the heck away.
