I would start saying that one of my friends warned me that Foxtons in general provide very poor services for obscene costs. Alas, against that, I deciced to use Foxtons.... My advice would be: "Always listen to your friends!!!"
We were looking for a nice 2 bed property in anywhere between Paddington and Hammersmith. We deal mostly with Alex Pommier, who showed us several properties. Be warned that Foxtons agents use several sale tricks:
1. they drive the clients around in their nice Mini cars, instead of meeting directly at the property, so what the clients don't have the chance to check the properties;
2. they show firstly the "bed" properties, at lower or at costs for the budget indicated and then the "good" properties, at much higher costs - so that they could say there are "no properties at indicated budget cost"...so they could force clients to pay more
After we liked a property, we indicated a price and a move-in date. The landlord agreed with the price, but for a specific move-in date, she wanted extension of the contract from 1 to 2 years. As we liked the property and though it is a good one, we agreed ... big mistake!!!
We were send then an electronic contract. I tried to contact our agent Alex and her boss Oliver multiple times, to ask for details and clarifications ... no avail, no answer. This should have been an warning for us! As we though the details were minor and have a trustful attitude, we signed the contract. Then the hell started ....
The non-communication continued, up to the point with 2 days before the agreed date, we did not know ...what is the move-in time or even day! I've called endlessly Alex and Oliver...none answered. I've called the Foxton office, which at the beginning were passing me around, the i started to shout and request to speak with a manager, otherwise I would have come in person to the office. In teh very end we were told to collect the keys from the office (!!! nobody showed in the property!), with no paper contract or inventory.
After we entered the house, another surprise! The landlord lot of items from the house it was shown to us, including the mirror in the bathroom! We have had to call the landlord and request a mirror, which finally came after 2 weeks wait. We received the inventory only other long calls and emails, after 2 months we entered the property.
In summary, Foxtons were awful, as long we agreed to rent a property and paid the advance and deposit, with 1.5 months in advance. Since then, nobody answered the phones and communicated with us. We also discovered after a while we were tricked: similar properties on our street were rented with at least £200 less in general ... That's why the landlord proposed 2 years lease instead of 1 ... This was a classic high-street robbery! (we discovered later that the property had serious flaws as well: poor windows, non enough heating and the neighborhood was not safe...)
What agent could do to change your mind?
Everything!!! Fair deal, details about contract, constant communication. We were robbed!
