We "applied" for a property last week in Musselbrough. I went to view the property and travelled all the way from Newcastle to do a handful of viewings. This was the first of the day and I really liked the place, I enquired with the lad who did the viewing (who I must say was polite and courteous) if they would take our dog as the advert had not specified either way? He said he didnt know and that I would have to apply for the house and pay the £200 application fee rather than them just contacting the landlord for clarification...seemed odd but het ho I applied and paid the £200.
I received a phonecall 2 days later to tell me that I hadnt been succesful, when I enquired why I was told because the landlord had not short listed me but they had no explanation as to why (Again this seemed a bit odd but not much I could do really). I did leave feedback with the girl on the phone explaining as I know my credit record is exempalary I could only assume it was the dog issue and suggested that perhaps it would be a good idea rather than taking my cash and asking me to apply they could have just enquired with the landlord or better still asked him in the first place when they were arranging to market his property to avoid a lot of unessecary paperwork!
She wasnt too impressed with my suggestion and tried to end the conversation abruptly, so much so I had to intervene and enquire about when I would receive my deposit back...she then went on to say despite taking it off my card instantly over the phone when I applied that she would issue it via accounts and it would take 5 working days. I queried this and explained I had paid promptly and expected the same in returning my cash. She was very displeased and said I would have to wait and sure enough 5 days has gone by and surprise surprise no cash arrived back. She did let slip that 8 people had applied for that property, thats £1600 of OUR money sitting in their bank account earning them interest.
Simply not acceptable, a very poor example of an estate agent in my view. Incidentally we have now got a house secured through another agent who was considerably more helpful and was in no hurry to get money until I was able to make it up in person to sort paperwork and ensure I was completely happy....far better example of a good business. Southside Property Management......avoid like the plague!!!! Very very poor service and dont give a stuff!
What agent could do to change your mind?
