I previously rented a property off this company and the first bad sign was the service charge of £15 they tried to charge me as insurance for if I had boiler/gas/electric problems. The guy who showed me around the house said it was a way for them to make money - very honest I know! When I went and paid the rent and deposit ect they told me despite the fact that the service charge was insurance it is not optional and I had to pay it - I needed the house I paid it. I then checked the policy terms and found that unless I was elderly or had children I could not use the insurance - I was not covered by this so called service charge so cancelled it-they never said anything further. Another bad point about Andrew Kelly was the hot water and heating issues I had. The system was very old and often didn't work, it took several calls and pestering for them to send someone over. I called a lot about the electric shower that was broken that I had relied on whilst the hot water was off. They did replace it however there was a point when I was showering at my mums as they gave me no alternative whilst they were waiting for a plumber to be free and take a look at the boiler etc. I had a gas leak whilst at this company and when I called the agency the south african lady sighed down the phone and had an attitude with me and said she would sort it. They got permission from the landlord to install a new boiler and heaters-they provided me no alternative whilst this work was being done, luckily the guys working on the job brought me electric heaters and I washed at my mums. I was very happy with my new boiler and heaters, and they guys filled in the hole in the wall where the fireplace they ripped out was. I called the agency after to advise that the wall needed decorated now it was filled in and the heaters were smaller than the previous and they needed decorated, this wasn't done so I had to make do. The final straw was after the first 6 month tenancy had ran out they sent me a letter saying if I would like to say to sign another 6 months would cost me £50 - this was never mentioned when signing initially and I could not find it in my contract. I disputed this however they sent me another letter advising if I was not happy with this then I had to let them know my leaving date. The most ironic thin is they said I was a brilliant tenant and they were sorry to lose me yet I was only leaving because of them I found most the staff rude and when I had real issues they acted like it was an inconvenience. Not the way I wanted to live when I was paying good money.
