This Agency has to be the worst I have had the misfortune to use. I didn't actually have many issues with them until I moved out of the property this year...after it changed hands from Right Let Leeds to Linley and Simpson. Although in 2020 they were rather rude as I hadn't replied due to my working on the front line in care homes during the pandemic.
Before I moved out of the property at the end of October 2024, I received an email stating that my entire deposit was being returned to the landlord due to rent arrears...which did not exist. Linley and Simpson did some digging and goung that my deposit was still with Right Let Leeds, and they had requested the full deposit back by default. Linley and Simpson requested they cancelled this, Right Let Leeds emailed DPS and unfortunately it did not get cancelled.
I was not made aware of this until I signed into DPS on 8th November, and my deposit was already sent back. I had apparently ignored emails that I didn't receive..and even DPS said only one email was sent to me to respond to their claim, but I didn't respond as I thought they had cancelled it, which I was told had happened by Linley and Simpson. Right Let Leeds went straight to the statutory claim, so only one email was sent to me.
I was obviously frustrated with this and spoke to an agent over the phone, who said Maani wasn't in (who was dealing with this case) so there was nothing she could do. I called back on Monday 11th and had the misfortune of speaking with Maani. I asked how long it would take, he tried avoiding the question so I continued to ask. He then said if I kept interrupting that he can drag his heels over this and this would take even longer than it should. I was appalled by this sheet rudeness from someone who I then found is the Director of RLL.
I continued with some emails back and forth, eventually finding through Shelter that it is the old agency's responsibility to notify DPS of a change of hands, but was told by both old and current agencies that this is not correct due to the deposit still being protected. Maani said I had been misinformed. Nevertheless, I called Citizen's Advice and was told that the information on Shelter was indeed correct, and that Right Let Leeds were responsible for notifying DPS of the change of hands. But by this point, Maani had already closed down any communication with me.
So I could only wait for them to receive my deposit to send back. No accountability was taken by RLL, I did get an apology from Linley and Simpson, and the DPS, none from RLL though, and certainly no apology from Maani. They are too busy covering their backs to hold their hands up to a mistake, and don't show any sign of care in their actions.
I would avoid them as much as possible, and am only thankful that I don't need to deal with them again. A terrible, unprofessional experience.
