Dear Foxtons Vauxhall Branch,
I was a tenant in a Foxtons managed property between 2021-2023 (2 year contract). The tenancy was a complete nightmare from start to finish.
For starters, upon moving in to the flat, the following issues were present:
-broken glass on bedroom floor
-exposed electrical wiring
-no smoke detector
-unusable kitchen
-broken washing machine
It took 6 weeks to get the broken glass and kitchen usable. It took a total of 4 weeks before we even received a response to 4 emails sent to different levels of management.
During the tenancy the following issues were not dealt with appropriately:
-broken washing machine for 3 months. I am a nurse who was working in covid intensive care at the time, believe me it was in everyone's interest for my clothes to be clean. Endless calls with no response (although after waiting on hold for 10+minutes, hanging up and calling back with a hidden number my call was answered in seconds...). No point in emailing or using their MyFoxtons portal. Sincerest apologies if I called to often, but I hope we can agree, 3 months is extreme.
- oven and hob tripping electricity (no means of cooking). Took a week for an electrician to come and review. Told on the phone this will be booked. Called back 2 days later, put in hold and engineer booked straight away. Why lie?
Finally, the deposit return. What a waste of everyone's time. £1400 is an actual joke. No response until 4 weeks after initial request for further evidence did I receive a telephone call. Miraculous reduction to £395 (cleaning fee removed along with fee for removal of non existent items). Do you have any idea the stress of holding this sum of money can cause? We received nothing, not even the undisputed amount back, until 8 weeks after the tenancy had ended.
The call I received from Foxtons regarding the deposit was, in my opinion, close to blackmail. I was asked to accept the £395 deduction over the phone or let this go to the adjudicator. I asked for a follow-up email and advised that I will review. This was all a mistake. Foxtons proceeded to claim the original amounts from the Mydeposits rather than the reduced amounts. I fell for it and now I am worse off.
Clearly, paying rent on time, in full every month, and not trashing the property is not enough. What should I have done? Called less when the washing machine was broken for 3 months? Accepted no means of cooking? Embraced the dangerous glass all over the floor? Just accepted the ridiculous deposit deductions?
I will never rent, buy or let out properties through Foxtons. Believe me, all these reviews are true- it is not worth your time.
Ps. If they're not answering your call, try hiding your number. Worked a charm for me.
Yours sincerely
