Dealing with Bernards Fareham has been a breath of fresh air - an open, honest, proactive and very knowledgeable team headed up by David. Nothing short of a detailed review would do justice to the quality of their work and service, so here we go:
We knew about Bernards before going on the market, but to be honest at the time they just seemed to be some small unknown estate agent, which we assumed would not have the experience, knowledge or reach of the established ones. However, after a few months on the market with our previous agent it simply felt like no progress was being made despite all our best efforts to make the property look as pristine as possible, we never had any proper feedback, viewings were rare and all we got were useless stock excuses on the rare occasion we had contact with them.
So, with Bernards fresh in mind from a recent marketing letter we decided "fine, let's see if you can do better", not expecting too much. Within minutes of phoning up to book a valuation Gemma had already hand delivered a full info brochure, which was the first detail to really impress us, as it showed Bernards are proactive - and that is probably the best single word I could use to sum up the whole experience.
Bernards Fareham are not content with simply sitting back and letting viewings come to them, as other agents seem to, the team (and David in particular) pull out all the stops to get your property in view of as many people as possible. David's knowledge of the area is encyclopedic, he knows seemingly every house on the market and every potential buyer, putting that knowledge to great use to bring in people that would otherwise never know about your property.
At the valuation he gave us open and honest feedback, adjusted the contract to suit our specific needs, told us about the many ways he could improve the way our property was presented for sale to make it more desirable without making any notable changes or dropping the price, and gave us a firm promise of a quick move as long as we trusted him and left it all in their hands (which was very appreciated as, quite frankly, you expect to be paying an estate agent to handle everything about selling your house for you).
David's sales skills are in another league too, never before have I met any estate agent who puts in so much thought and effort to present the house in the best possible light, to tailor the viewing to the potential buyer so that they can imagine themselves living there, to learn from any negative feedback about the house so that changes can be made to avoid that ever popping up again. The one time we did have a problem after a viewing instead of just a generic phone apology David rushed around in person to address and solve it immediately, it was a small gesture but it really did feel like customer satisfaction was the absolute priority.
And the end result is that in just over a week we'd had more interest than in months with the prior agent, as well as offers at and above our asking price.
Special shoutouts as well go to Gemma for being a great point of contact in the office, and Matthew the photographer, whose photos did a fantastic job of highlighting all the best points of the property.
