I had a lot of problems with one of Equity’s electricians, Myles Evans. I found him to be a very controlling, manipulative individual who enjoys causing harm. I have reason to believe he has access to my flat and was letting himself in when I went out. Unfortunately it wasn’t something I could prove, and having a second lock put on my front door made no difference. During the same time period I saw him spying on me from the top floor landing of the block of flats whilst I was outside. It was obvious he wanted me to see him. This happened a couple of times and gave me the impression that he was trying to make me feel insecure about leaving my flat unattended. He also appeared to be keeping tabs on me and following me when I went out. I came to the conclusion that he is on the narcissistic spectrum at the psychopathic end. Be careful not to be fooled by the superficial charm. In my experience, it’s just a big performance. I have informed the police.
Based on a few frustrating conversations I had with him and going with my instincts, it wouldn’t surprise me if the director of Equity, Daniel Clitheroe, is also a bit narcissistic, although I’ve never met him properly in person so I don’t have a lot to go on.
Then there is Richard Hartley, the sneaky plumber who was meant to replace the whole of my old shower, but instead he left it part broken without even explaining why he hadn’t completed the work. It kind of looks like he didn’t want to do the job properly and was hoping I wouldn’t ask him to come back. Equity don’t sack the unhelpful tradespeople, you have to ask for someone different if you feel you are being messed around.
My flat is great, the rent is reasonably priced, the building and grounds seem to be well looked after, and maintenance issues are dealt with efficiently once you have identified who the trustworthy tradesmen are. So it’s definitely not all bad. Maybe people who are healthy have a positive experience of Equity, but anyone who has emotional issues or vulnerabilities could be viewed as easy to take advantage of by some of the more dubious people associated with this company who just can’t help but be themselves.
Despite the good points, I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending this letting agency to someone new, therefore only 2 stars from me.
Thank you for listening.
