Just wanted to share my experience renting with Leaders Cambridge for about an year.
I don't have any complaints during our stay at the property. The check-in experience was not perfect, but I wouldn't go out of my way to talk about it.
It was the check-out and deposit experience that were a big disappointment. We were told that the landlord wanted to charge us about £300 for professional cleaning as the property was not considered clean enough during the check-out visit. Of course, the landlord is within his own right to make such claims, but it was simply the way the agency dealt with our queries and negotiation points that was completely off-putting. I would summarise the experience as per below:
- Agency was not proactive in paying us back the undisputed amount of the deposit
- The replies we got were almost quite rude (lacking a better word to describe them) and dismissive of our negotiation arguments
- We were misinformed that if we were to go down the road of arbitration we were to be charged (no idea if the agency lacked the knowledge or was simply trying to make us settle quicker)
- As we had been asked to hire professional cleaning ahead of our last day, we got the strong feeling that they were trying to enforce it on us by then trying to charge us post check-out
In the end, we were able to claim back most of the cleaning charges and we used the arbitration service provided by TDS for free.
If you are having similar issues with this agency or another, please do get TDS (or other relevant deposit scheme) involved as they can advise best and have a great customer team.
If you can't decide between a few rental properties and Leaders is one of the options, I would definitely go for another agency.
