I was left seething, disappointed and in financial jeopardy by my experience with Hindhead Property. Nevertheless, I had decided to keep my experience to myself because I am about to start a new life in the city and so preferred to accentuate the positive. Having now, however, completed a positive review on here of the simply outstanding lettings agency which got me out of my predicament in double-quick time by securing me a tenancy inside of a week, it is only fair to ensure that when the industry awards are decided for 2021, that other agency is not disadvantaged by the fact that this very negative experience of Hindhead Property is not also recorded here.
Hindhead Property makes an undeniably strong first impression. They seemed to be marketing many of the nicest properties and were slick and professional over the phone. Despite never having heard of them before, I actually assumed that I must be dealing with the number one lettings agent in the city. The reality - as I learned yesterday - is that they are not: the excellent team through which I finally got my property has been the AllAgents Gold Award Best Letting Agent in the city for the past 3 years, and rightly so, based on my experience. I started my property search on my preferred major property website on 30th September and had my first phone contacts with Hindhead a few days later. These got nowhere as I was cheerily informed that both properties - which were shown wholly available on the website - were subject to applications referencing. In the course of those conversations I had indicated my circumstances so it would have been very helpful to have had Hindhead suggest to me that I might make an application based on a virtual viewing, or otherwise take some account of the fact that I was living 250 miles away. I wouldn't even classify such behaviour as going the extra mile, just basic professionalism. In any case, none of that was forthcoming: with Hindhead, as a prospective tenant , you are very much out there on your own, left to your own devices. As a lettings agent in the city speaking to someone seeking to re-locate there from a different region of the country, how could you not at least warn them of just how fast-moving the rental market is down there? Those were both things I therefore had to work out for myself and, by the second week of October, had done:- clearly, my only viable option for securing a nice place was to rely on the virtual viewing and contact the agent to put down the holding deposit.
This was therefore what I did when they marketed the next nice property in Peverell on 12th October. Indigo, who I believe is the lettings manager, however, advised that it didn't work that way and sent through the tenancy application. She cautioned me that viewings were scheduled so I it would be in my interest to not delay submitting it. The impression she left me with was that a completed application excluded subsequent ones unless rejected by the landlord. This was the next thing that was
