Richard James were amazing at selling my house, selling it (twice) in less than 24 hours both times, for considerably more than I’d hoped for. My first buyer pulled out, and my house was back on the market just a couple of days later and sold again the same day. The brochure was extremely professional.
However, Richard James must focus more attention and staff development on their sales progression service and staff.
It all started off very well, with the first staff member introducing herself by e-mail, explaining the service and support she would provide to me through this stressful process. She chased all solicitors and agents for an update on a weekly basis, and provided me with a regular update. I was impressed and pleased.
Then it all went quiet, with no updates, then went downhill.
The first member of staff had left, with no-one telling me. No-one took over my sale and so it hadn’t progressed for 2-3 weeks. When I hadn’t received an update, I telephoned the office and discovered she had left. I acknowledge it is difficult to pick up someone else’s work, but the replacement member of staff struggled to take on board the details of my case, and appeared overworked.
I regularly had to update her on my case, or ask her to obtain an update when a week or more had passed by with no news. At one stage, I was asked by the Richard James employee to ring round to get an update from the other estate agent and solicitors, which I refused to do and had to remind her of her role. Eventually, I did have to resort to doing this, in order to understand where we were in the house sale/purchase process on a regular basis.
The most mortifying moment was when my purchaser appeared on my doorstep unannounced, in a bad mood, asking ME for an update!! It appeared my purchaser was also struggling to get regular, accurate updates from Richard James too, as the information they repeated to me was wholly inaccurate and out-of-date.
So for me, the service provided by Richard James started off strongly, but ended up as a damp squib. If you are looking for a fast and good sale, choose Richard James, but be prepared to keep on top of the sales progression yourself to keep your sale moving in a timely fashion.
