The worst company/agency I have ever dealt with and the rudest/deceitful agents. FOR ANY TENNANT OR LANDLORD CONSIDERING THIS AGENCY PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I originally left a glowing review as I was asked to leave one by one of the agents prior to moving into the flat that we have stayed in for the last six months. As soon as we moved in that's when the issues and lies became apparent, I hesitated to change my review to minimize further problems but now we have (half) of our deposit back I can reveal the truth to hopefully warm people about this agency.
I am sure Doorknobs will come back with counter points to the issues I have listed below but I can assure everyone that I have email records and photos that can prove all of the below points. I will be reaching out to various legal governing bodies to see if any of our rights were violated.
Issue/Lie 2. Rats. Rats. Rats. We were sold the flat based on an outside area that could be used for hanging washing etc. The area was completely infested with rats of multiple sizes. Daily rats would be running past our door (the kitchen). When I called the agency to say I wanted out they threatened me with a CCJ and said that they did not need to inform me that there were rats at the property and it was my job to recognise this. A rat trap magically appeared on the day we moved in. The rat guy was eventually sent out and he said they had known about this problem for ages in this area. The area was consistently covered in Pidgeon mess as well, basically vermin everywhere which made the area not only unusable but a health and safety hazard.
Issue/Lie 2. They told us that virgin internet was available and installed, this was not true, nothing was installed and when we called virgin out they explained that they were not allowed to install to a basement flat. We ended up having to use our phone wifi which had barely any signal. As web developers this had a massive impact on our work. I have emails where I was specifically told that virgin wifi would be available. Lies.
Issue 3. Electricity issues. The flat we stayed in was very small studio (literally one room and a small toilet/shower room). The agency told us that it was with British gas, we called British gas and they didn't have our property on the system anywhere. Eventually we gave the supply number to British gas and they set us up. A concern that we raised prior to moving in was that electric or storage heating would be expensive and they assured us that this was not the case and the heaters would be cost effective (I have an email to prove this). Once we got up and running the first bill was £350. That's right £350 for a tiny studio flat and we barely turned the heater on. We raised this as an issue with them, there were 2 other flats and a shop above and we thought that it might be hooked up wrong. We had absolutely no support at all so in the end we ended up switching the heating off, luckily for us it was coming up to the summer so the bills were less without the heating although still amounted to the average cost of a 3 bedroom detached house.
Issue 4. We only got half of our deposit back at the end. In-fact when we dropped the keys off at the agency the agent even said 'Thanks we will let you know what we find'. Like they were planning to charge us before they even checked. I have lived in many places and I have never had so much of a deposit taken, not even close. Repainting 3 walls etc. Ridiculous and petty.
I am going to stop now as it feels pretty negative to have to write this, I literally never leave reviews especially negative ones but this agency has left me no choice, I don't want anyone else to fall victim to their horrendous customer service and disingenuous business practices.
Oh and one more thing. I had to lead pretty much everything, I literally had to remind the agent to send me the contract through to sign. Once again I have proof of this, I am positive that the landlord would go out of his mind if he knew.
Please everyone, for your own sanity, avoid Doorknobs in Tunbridge wells at all costs.
